The Saintbury's meal deal has changed and not for the better. Taste the difference sandwiches have been removed from the deal along with countless others.

Twitter isn't impressed.

What am I going to spend my Nectar points on now?

When were these 'meal deals' ever good value ?
I have never bought one
(except if it you had/have a zillion M&S accounts)

another sad thread.

taste the difference sandwiches in this meal deal was the best deal of all. the other sandwiches in the deal are just ok, unless it is a triple sandwich then it is better. shame they are removing the nice sandwiches. i would have preferred they increase the price and kept the same option.

very sad news, how about Tesco, Boots, Asda, Wilko, Waitrose, Morrison's...have they stopped their generosity too?

Generosity?

Apparently Sainsbury's have changed supplier after 15+ years to a cheaper lower quality one used by Tesco and a few others. They've also cut loads out the deal at the same time. Apparently Boots still use the supplier Sainsbury's used to use and I've always found the boots ones good. I don't think I've ever had a Sainsbury's meal deal anyway though.

This is what friend sent me, no idea where they found it so it might just be speculation but:

"Sainburys changed their sandwich supplier on Friday just gone, walking away from the company that has supplied them for the last 18 years to save money by using a bigger supplier.

Trouble is, they were a massive customer to the old supplier and were spoilt rotten. If Sainburys wanted it, Sainburys got it. Those days have gone now they have joined the same company that supplies the likes of tesco and asda.

For you boots sandwich loving people, the good news is that boots have gone the other way. So prepare for the range and quality of boots sandwiches to increase, and the Sainburys ones to go downhill. All for cost cutting reasons."

I just read the exact same quote on the Evening Chronicle website, at the bottom in the comments.

I felt i HAD to tweet sainsburys to vent my feelings, it's the end of a lunchtime era, bad times!

Why don't you make your own sandwiches?

Someone had to say it.

Some days I do, some days I have soup, last Friday of the month I have a fish and chips, just depends on my mood and what I have in the fridge. Also whether I could be bothered to make a packed lunch.

If I have to get something while I'm out, it's gonna be something worthwhile. Like a pasty, pastry, a quiche or a pie. Something I can't be bothered to make. Never understood people buying sandwiches.

I'm not sure who the "bigger supplier" is as they were with Greencore who are the biggest supplier. I'm guessing they have moved to the same supplier as Tesco as nobody else has the scale and distribution to take on a task.

Or maybe they haven't changed at all and are just offering the standard range to make the £3 deal sustainable across all stores.

Sainsburys meal deal was never as good as morrisons anyway. Much more choice at m, which even includes cyo salad bar and hot items from oven fresh. Sometimes the individual price is over £6 for the items i get.

I like my sandwich to be made fresh in front of me and not churned out from a factory!

Sainsbury's was the same, Pastas, Salads even the 'Taste the difference' range of sarnies was included. Alright you couldn't get a pasty, but in terms of sandwiches; Sainsbury's was the daddy. Morrisson's sandwiches are nowhere near as good.

Morrisons best range of sandwiches are included in their meal deal aswell not just run of the mill ones and they make a selection fresh in store as well as salads and sides made fresh everyday. their selection of drinks and 'sides' is far better, much more choice.

This is what me OH says. I can't eat home made sandwiches. I have a psychological barrier against them so they may don't taste as nice, irrespective of what I put in them.

Sandwiches aren't very nice in general to be fair, does't matter where they come from.

Boots meal deals are great.Even better on a Monday when you get them for £1 with 02 priority

I love sandwiches. I often just have a sandwich for dinner as I can't think of any meals to have or when we go to a pub for dinner, I just get a fancy sandwich instead of one of the meals as I like that the best.

Bacon and hot egg sandwiches are the exception to the rule! That sounds lush

saw new 'deal' thread for Morrisons meal deal! I don't live anywhere near Morrisons but am sure their meal deals are lovely (unlike Sainsburys)

I used to avoid morrisons meal deal as it costs 50p less than sainsburys and tescos but their sandwich were very poor quality and the drinks smaller. However, i noticed the other day that they have increased the meal price to that similar to sainsburys and what you get is really good now, a big difference for just 50p more.
