    Road Bike for beginner

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking to buy a road bike. I have been looking online and found some at a price point which I am happy with.

I like the 2nd best but the first one's price is very good imo.

as i'm starting i'm not quite sure how many miles per week I will be doing, but hopefully about 30 to 40 miles per week.

I have checked and the frame height needs to be 53cm. I'm 170m in height.

Please share some light and give me some of your clever advices

Im also looking to get one to get started. I have been looking at triban 3 and the carrera tdf

Not liking any of the bikes in the links above. Not very good bikes IMO, flappy or twist gear shifters etc I'd go for a Triban 3 if anything, new or a VGC 2nd hand one.

is it worth it? … is it worth it? http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-3-red-road-bike-id_8274036.html#anchor_ComponentProductTechnicalInformation

Yes. That version has Carbon forks and is a popular bike

    Hi, I have this one,
    bikes2udirect.com/B52…tml
    Can't fault it.
As long as you have a bit of know how in maintaining it and adjusting it, it should serve you well.
It has quick release wheels. Gear shifters built into brake levers. ETC. ETC.

Not bad, will add it to my list as the Triban 3 seems to be out of stock, just when I was about to buy it.
    thanks

The red triban 3 will most likely never be in stock again. Supposed to be a new model coming out "Triban 300"

The alternative a lot of people take to the Triban 3 is the Carrera Zelos from Halfords, the link above to the new Carrera TDF is a glorified Zelos, but still definitely one to consider at this price range.

    any thoughts on it?

also considering the Triban 300 even though there's no carbon fork as the 3 had. decathlon.co.uk/tri…tml
but I wonder if 57 frame is to big for me at 170m height.

I'd choose the Triban T3a over the Claude Butler, the Claude Butler has 'on bar shifters', as opposed to the shifters being on the hoods/brakes, and since most of the time is spent on the hoods functionally wise it's a damn sight easier, now I've used hood shifters I couldn't ever imagine using bar mounted shifters (or even down tube shifters!)

Between the Triban T3a and the GT GTR 4, however I'm not sure I could justify the extra £50 spend as there doesn't seem much difference and I'd choose the T3a which despite the forks, people still give good reviews, and there's nothing stopping you from in the future picking up a Triban 3 red fork or a branded carbon fork and fitting them to the T3a. You're not buying a road bike to win races just yet, so the T3a even without the fork should be more than good enough with possible upgrades of forks/wheels if you ever felt the need.

However if I did have an extra £50 to spend, I think I'd rather look at the new Triban 500SE decathlon.co.uk/tri…tml I believe the first x many recieve the Shimano Sora drivetrain.

The trouble with road bikes is that there is always "£X0" amount more you could spend, there was several times I looked at bikes I couldn't justify to myself before I reigned myself in and reminded myself of what my budget was, and your budget keeps on increasing!

Definitely try and sit on the bikes you're looking at, especially if you're new to road bikes, I came from a dual sus bike to a road bike, the transition was fairly easy but I noticed the massive difference in one brands size to another.

I have been to one of my local bike shop and I seen a TREK bike for 599, my employer offers the bike2work scheme so maybe this would be a good bike.

With both you're paying for the brand. Trek do have a lifetime warranty of frame and rigid forks so that's a good thing. But I wouldn't spend £600 on those because of the components, not worth that much at all.

Oh and at the end of season the Trek you pointed out will be more like £400 in the sales.

You really don't need to spend that much on a starter bike. Get something like a Triban 3 for £300.
