Rooting a HTC phone...is it worth it?

Thought you had an iPhone 4, can't keep up with how often you change!

I'm considering rooting my desire purely to have all apps/cache on the SD card.

Haven't really found the best/up to date method though

depends what phone and what you want to do to it.

I have a rooted Desire and it's miles better than before.

Well worth the effort.

There are more roms available than you can shake a stick at and it goes some way to overcoming the ridiculously small memory.

haha i did have an iphone 4 but i recently sold it to fund an ipad 2 (which i still haven't got my hands on)

and then after selling the iphone 4 i was planning on going out and buying a £10 nokia to use as a phone...but i got a message off a mate asking me if i wanted to buy his htc desire for £30 because the inner LCD was broken...so i said i'll give you £25...done deal got it repaired for £59.99 so got myself a desire for £85 which is unlocked! Seems a good deal to me lol!

I'm checking some vids on rooting on youtube now I don't think i'll do it as the comments section is just bombarded with "my phone crashes on start up what do i do" etc etc

Faster, slicker, able to flash themes. A2SD+ frees up a lot more space.

You can run roms from the Desire HD which look nice.

Have a look at the Desire forums on XDA. I think rooting now is very simple. I did mine about a year ago when it was quite tricky.

Just been on xda devs and it just confuses me when i look at the threads there lol iphone jailbreaking and theming is so much easier

People build custom versions of the operating systems for you to install (flash) on your phone.

Developing a rom means these people csn take out unnecessary apps, improve memory management, update core components, totally replace the whole os itself with another.

I'm running a rom called LeeDroid which is quite standard but allows overclocking and a few other clever bits and bobs.

Have a look at RCmixHD which is a port from the desire HD.

It's his personal tribute to me. Or he wants people to think he's me.

I've rooted my phone now but I wanted to put the "InsertCoin" ROM on my phone (Desire HD port) and where the download link is there's about 8 seperate files in there which all add up to 3.6GB!?!?!

Rooted my DHD the other day and installed ARHD4 runs great just getting use to using an Android device after moving from a crackberry, really tempted to get the Samsung Galaxy S II next month if the battery on that is better than the HTC!

Was it easy? Got links to how you did it?

What makes you think it's worth it?

I'm stuck with a brand-new Desire HD software version which I need to downgrade, and it's T-Mobile branded, which makes it even harder. Wish I was better with command line stuff, I'm gonna have to wait for an easy root to become available =( Fancy a nice Gingerbread build..

It's worth doing imo. I was a bit worried at first but followed this guide and did my desire hd with no issues.

this is the guide i used GUIDE HERE

Also it's worth it in a ton of different ways...the phone is now 10 times smoother than it was and once rooted you can download an app from the store called "setcpu" and you can over or underclock your processor to make the phone VERY fast or underclock to save battery life.

Honestly you will NOT regret it once done...A2SD makes it worth it alone.

First i had insertcoin hd 2.0.0 rom flashed on the desire but then decided to try cyanogen mod 7 and it is way better...very very fast and makes the phone feel much different and better overall in my opinion.

Command line stuff?

The easy root is out my friend called unrevoked it's basically follow the instructions to install the HBOOT drivers on your computer then open unrevoked and it root's the phone auto!

(_;) Going to have a look at doing this myself, the memory management on this phone is shocking when it comes to the apps.
