Prices are going up on 7th April 2008.

The 1st Class Letter price will increase to 36p for stamp and 34p for meter.
The 2nd Class Letter price will increase to 27p for stamp and 24p for meter.
Royal Mail Special Delivery® Next Day will increase by 30p to £4.60 for mail up to 100g.

An item I used to sell on ebay used to cost 23p to send 2nd class only 2 years ago, now it is 92p and going up to 95p in April - more than a 400% increase! I just had a quick look and some prices have gone up by about 8% - thats more than the rate of inflation isn't it?!

I believe that inflation is less than 8%.

Disgustin' innit. Wonder how thats going to affect Ebay sellers when ebay rollout their 'fair postage charges' vendetta.

Stupid prices now at RM. its cheaper to post 2 large letters of 100g than a single 200g one. I now send out about 3 times as many packets/large letters as I used to just to save postage. How mad is that!

It is an outrage! Charging me 36 of my pennies to send something to the otherside of the United Kingdom in a single day!

Jokes aside, you shouldn't judge increases in prices by how much higher they are than inflation. The Royal Mail is ancient and has lacked investment and is forced to lose money by sending our mail, so it can't afford to upgrade it's machines to make it's process cheaper, kinda a horrible money losing cycle...

Shouldn't that read single WEEK (if you're lucky...).

All my first class has arrived at it's destination on the next day, unless it's a Sunday or that one problem... Didn't pay enough postage for something even though it was recorded so the post office was to blame

A week? Your postman must be superman!:-D

RM are unreliable

Nah he's just efficient....

It's taking a week for my DVDs to get to/from Blockbuster for my rental service. And it's not just because if Christmas, this has been going on for months. Lots of mail takes longer to get where it is going and now will cost yet again more to post.

A first class stamp costs half as much in the USA. The expectation is that it will be anywhere in the US in a week (it depends on how far it is going, inside Chicago it would be a day) and I used to think we had an unreliable 'crummy' postal system. Now I wish I was back in the US (postage-wise).

Until things like this push the rate of inflation to 8%. :x

Still cheap in my humble opinion. As an example posted my chrimbo cards on monday and the arrived on wednesday. That was second class as well to the other end of the country and this close to christmas. Bargain.

As Jack Dee said in one of his standup shows "To all those people moaning about postal prices going up, you get on the train and see how far your 36p train ticket will carry you and your letter..." ;-)

To which I reply.

"How much would RM charge to transport 134KGS?"

Bet its a damn sight more than ANY of the railway companies.:p

The jurys out on that one. It's based on the P&P DSR so those with a low rating get pushed down the search. First I don't agree with search fiddling, I want to make my own decisions on what I see and buy. Second, there are a lot of sellers that offer personal collection who are getting low or no rating on the P&P DSR. So how will that affect their visibility in the searches? They may be excellent sellers, but because of the nature of the good they sell, they can't post them. As an example, the father in law sells fruit machines etc on ebay. To send it would cost about £80, so he says personal collection only. Has the advantage the buyer can see it working etc. But because of that, he has low/no DSR on P&P, therefore its going to be a waste of time him listing anything.......
