Royal Mail Claim

Hi Guys,

Just done a quick google search, can someone please clarify that if Royal Mail loose an item and I have proof of postage/sent the item recorded delivery that I can claim upto the value of 100 first class stamps (0.42p x 100 = £42.00). Looking to send something worth £37.00 and want that piece of mind.

Thank you in advance

With the snow not really going to be any benefit and I believe Recorded only goes up to £35 so I believe Special delivery would cover further.

What is the point when its only worth £37?

We get cards every day from the royal mail telling us we under paid on postage by 8p (usually) but they want to charge us an 'admin' fee for handling (which is usually at least 10 times the amount) - we never do underpay by the way unless their franking machine is incorrect!

So, as recorded and RMSD are roughly the same in price for the user, why not go for £500 worth of insurance and see what you get when your £37 item goes missing?

Not that I would ever condone insurance fraud, but they seem to mess up quite a lot, the OP may 'forget' how much the item is worth.

Just a thought.

Really? I guess it depends on weight of parcel but we send stuff out for around the £5 mark (and under) via RMSD.

Recorded on costs £1?

Because Recorded starts from £1.06 for up to 100g and RMSD starts at £5.05.

It doesn't matter, recorded is always cheaper than SD and as the OP only needs £37 worth of cover then recorded is the best option

Fair enough. I guess this is a shopping forum after all so bet deals and all that.

Personally I'd still use RMSD. Next day guaranteed and £500 insurance value - perfect.

I was replying to your previous post about a suggestion for me to do an audit
Fair enough Greg, you're most probably correct. I'm just saying, in my humble opinion, I'd send it RMSD as I wouldn't feel comfortable with a guaranteed delivery in this weather, at this time of year.
And if things goes wrong, you can claim for up to £500.
You and the OP may not think that's worth the extra £4 or whatever it will cost. Personally, I do.

We'll agree to disagree eh?

yes! i stupidly sent something to the value of around £60 via normal 1st class standard & guess what got lost! but i had the receipt, emails from buyer & receipt of the original price etc but they still paid out, less the amount though (£45) but better than nothing! especially after numerous members on here saying i woul'nt get a penny!!! but obviously send recorded less the hassle if anything does go wrong

it actual depends what is sent and if you can prove its worth ie original receipt or paypal receipt for what the buyer paid you etc
