give them a call to see if its there, sometimes they never pick up though

Ours state they are usually back by 5pm

ive found if you leave it till like 1hr - 1/2hr till the sorting office close then they will always give it to you

round here they say to collect it the following day. Our postal collection place is only open 07.00 - 13.00

Ditto - although you can get them to deliver it to your local post office ( if this is closer)

sorting office is right over the road from my parents house, where i get all my mail sent, lol

Its normally meant to be the next day, but sometimes they will give it to you if they have it anyway.

We had a family from there move into my town, they got arrested for burning someone's fence down I think

ours are always collect the next day

It's normally 24 hours from the time stated on the card!
Although if you ring up, I think for a fee, they will direct it to your local post office for collection which is normally quicker than waiting in a queue in the sorting office!

We only have to wait 2 hours from when the card was written (one of the pleasures of living in the wilds of Wales, I suppose).

Thanks guys!

Check the card. The majority i have to wait 48Hrs:w00t: and it is not available for next day collection. It depends on where it gets returned to or whether the postie or the van delivered it.

Mine is in Cubie Street and it's a complete nightmare with packages obviously stolen by their delivery people, cards opened to see if money was inside them and even my online DVD rentals opened and delivered a day late so the postie had a chance to watch it first... :pirate:

Anyway to the OP, it depends if the parcel was taken straight back or not, sometimes they will put them in the grey boxes for pick-up by a van or to pick up the next day if they're finishing their shift so best to call them first and check to save a wasted trip! If you get it sent to your local post office then they charge you an extra 50p or something for that. Oops, see someone beat me to it!

It will never be 48 hours dont know where you have got that from, it will vary from 2 hours to 24 hours, basically if the posty cant deliver it then its got to go back into the sorting office, and if that postys duty doesnt involve him going back after his shift (some do some dont) then he will have to put the item in a pouch and post it back to the sorting office via a post box or a post office, so it will always be there the next day no reason for the 48 hr thing and never known it in any sorting office.

Lol paranoid or what!!! In my 15 years working in a mail centre ive never seen anyone get done for stealing, and the amount of rental dvds that come open due to poor seals is unbelievable, you really think a posty wants to risk his job to watch a dvd get real!!! And every day in my centre is 100s of birthday cards that arent sealed properly and come open and have to be resealed up or put in a damages bag , security is tighter than u think in a mail centre with loads of manned cctv.

It's not paranoia when in each case the corners at the open end of the cards were half-ripped open just enough to see if there was any cash in the card, mate. I never had any trouble with anything going missing or stuff being half-opened when I lived in a different area of the city that was served by a different depot, but as soon as I moved to another area then the problems started.

The times when I had cards put through my letterbox for items that mysteriously disappeared in between that point and getting back to the depot weren't paranoia either. Funny how the stuff sent from personal sellers on Fleabay never disappeared, only those from HMV or PLAY. I've had a signed-for recorded delivery item that was signed for and then never put through my letterbox, the signature was nowhere near!

OK, with your experience I'll accept that the DVD online rental could have been just a bad seal, but after the various experiences I've had with that depot then I erred on the side of it being dodgy. I've made various complaints and I get assurances that these things will never happen again, but they always do and let's face it, I can't be the only one!

When I was postman, items sometimes took longer than a day, if I finished my round and posted undelivered items at a Post Office, they are treated the same as normal mail, so unless Royal Mail has a 100% next day delivery record, items often took more than a day.

For me, if its the post van that has been it will be back at the sorting office same day, but if the postmans been i have to wait a day

It should be back by the same day

In my experience, if I have missed the post man I go to the depot after 5pm and have never had any trouble my parcel/s have always been there ready for me.
