Ryanair faces flight disruptions over Christmas as Dublin and German pilots vote in favour of strikes

Oh dear... not a very merry Christmas for Ryanair...

Well worth checking before you travel ryanair.com/gb/…ute

Ryanair could face disruptions to its Christmas flight schedule after Irish pilots have voted in favour of industrial action.

Members of the Irish Ialpa took a vote this week, with 79 out of 84 voters backing strikes - and these could take place over the busy Christmas season.

Ialpa doesn't represent all of Ryanair's pilots, just the those directly employed by the airline (Ryanair employs many of its pilots from third parties), but voters included captains - and since flights can't take place without them, this would pose a major problem for the airline.

Not to mention that Dublin is one of the airline's biggest bases, so it could cause real disruptions to the network, especially over the busy festive season.

Ryanair pilots in Germany call strike in dispute over wages

The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced on Tuesday that pilots on Ryanair would take part in the first industrial action in the budget airline’s history.
The announcement comes after pilot’s unions in Portugal and Italy had also called their members to strike against the Irish company.

VC did not name dates for the strikes in order to make it harder for Ryanair to prepare contingency plans. They did however say that Christmas and Boxing Day would not be affected.

The Irish airline, which is cancelling thousands of flights because of pilot shortages, said it had not been notified of any industrial action by its German pilots.
