Have you checked the Settings> Battery > Battery Usage to get idea which apps are draining battery. Remember to turn off bluetooth, location, nfc etc which are no more in use. Check which apps are running in background.

Good advice from aaqeel, how is your phone signal as poor signal can drain batteries quickly.
If you have Facebook/Twitter or other Apps with push notifications enabled or Sync enabled this will alll drain your battery.

Have a look over on XDA Forums for device specific help.

Culprit is nearly always the facebook app.

If it is the case of Android system, can be some services running in background. Also leave your phone screen settings to auto, use static wallpaper. Go to Settings> smart manager > RAM and click end all to close all running apps and services (Repeat this in routine after every few hours). After all these, monitor battery performance.

On the newer Android versions the standard response is not to close Apps this way but to leave Android deal with it.
(Personally I do anyway even running 7.1)

In my case it was all about background data over 4G which works all the time. switched everything off, got rid of Facebook and messenger. I'm more than happy with my battery life now.

Yep. There was a test recently where it was found Facebook uses around 20% of your battery even if you're not using it

is there anyway to find out if it's an app I have downloaded that is causing this issue?

I have du speed booster on mine that auto shuts down apps when I lock the screen. If your only using mobile data and not WiFi that tends to destroy my battery. Also a recent oculus update messed up the Android system and caused massive battery drain. Only fix was to remove oculus, I believe they now fixed that but i won't be putting it back on.

I had a similar issue, and discovered that the culprit was a process called media server. After a bit of digging and some trial and error, I traced it back to Google Chrome. I stopped the Chrome process and switched to using the stock browser on the phone and my battery life increased dramatically

    I blame Pokemon Go lol

Historically its been the fb app. Apart from that it would be a background process or using location services. I'm updated my s7 edge to Nougat beta and I get around 4 hours sot with 22hours battery life. I do remember when playing pokemon go I had to charge twice a day.

List what apps you have installed

I had same issues. Much better without WiFi and 4g off, especially at night. Samsung Repaired mine, it was internal lcd and battery
