SAMSUNG NC10 TECH ADVICE ON MEMORY UPGRADE

I'm considering upgrading the RAM on my newly purchased Samsung NC10

From what I can see, it's the standard DDR2 667MHZ SODIMM 2 PIN, does anybody know if this is correct and if not, what I should be buying to upgrade memory to 2GB?

Any help will be much appreciated.

I am just picked one of these up and wondering myself. I have been looking at purchacing this

Can either of you confirm the battery life figures?

I dont have one but I have been reading reviews and they have got up to 6 hours and 30 minutes. Which is not bad at all , just wish I had a spare 300 quid !

Thanks I've seen the reviews, just some times review units (like MSI Wind, I heard) can "differ" from consumer units ... and the figures being quoted for the NC10 are quite extraordinary, even compared with the Asus 1000H.

Hi the battery life on normal useage profile is hitting well over 6 hours for me.

That's the correct type of memory.

I recommend paying £4 more and buying from Crucial. Their memory is the best in the business and comes with a lifetime guarantee.

I used Crucial (because of their "Memory Advisor Tool") to buy 2gb RAM for my girlfriends NC10. Use the link below to save 5% - Works out 90p less at £20.08 delivered.

hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade the ram on my nc10 as well, however just wondering, as all the tools i've used to tell me my ram, seem to indicate that there are two slots for ram? I know with it being xp 2gb is probably the most anybody will ever need, but just curious as to whether anybody has found a second slot? i'm opening mine up soon to change out the wifi card so i can run mac osx on it properly so i'll have a look then but just seeing if anybody else has noticed that when using certain tools to check ram i.e. cpuz etc

There's only one slot, holding the 1gb thats in it, so you will need a 2gb stick of 200 pin 533mhz ram.. i'm just about to buy one myself, £17.99 for a kingston 2gig stick from play.com..

got the crucial one and works perfectly, it gets recognised in both my xp side and mac side

Which memory is it at Crucial?

I've got an NC10 coming and want to upgrade the memory.

bought 2gb from Crucial for £20.08 INSTANT DELIVERY by the way!

easy to install, use the video when doing it though, you have to insert the ram at 45 degrees for it to slot in

with the money saved using the play voucher and quicdo, covered cost of ram

is this suitable for the nc10? play.com/PC/…tml

what does the mhz speed refer to?

the highr the better?

Does upgrading the RAM invalidate the warranty?

No - warranty is unaffected. Instructions are given in the manual.

Looks great thanks for advice have orded this for my new Samsung NC10

Hi,

Just wanted to say a big thank you for this useful thread.

I have now upgraded the memory in my new samsung nc10. Ordered the memory from Crucial as advised - only cost £16.38 delivered. Ordered it at c10:10pm on 17 January and received this morning (19th). Took a few minutes following the video link provided to put it in.

I know nothing about computers and would not have had a clue to do this, where to get the memory from or how to do the upgrade.

So big thanks to all who posted.

Kind Regards
FHM

Just upgraded my memory to 2Gb so how do I change the amount of memory the graphics use.

just ordered a 2GB stick from Crucial also. just under £20

thanks

The MHz rating is the speed in which the RAM communicates with the CPU via a bus. It is not the actual speed of the RAM - the actual speed is a percentage of the figure and depends on which processor is being used (for example Intel processors are quad-pumped, so 25% is the actual speed).

Higher speed rating is not always better but lower is worse. If you specify a lower rating then the communication speed between CPU and RAM is reduced. A higher rating will make no difference if the rating exceeds the bus speed. However, higher speed rated RAM such as 800 Mhz RAM can sometimes be cheaper than 533 or 667 MHz RAM.
