Samsung NC10 Wireless N WiFi Upgrade

Just thought I'd post this as I recently upgraded my Samsung NC10 to wireless N (better connection, better range for my router) for £35...and it was an easy job. Thought others might like to know what I bought and how I did it...

    Module:
    oxfordtec.com/uk/…tml

    Antenna:
    oxfordtec.com/uk/…tml

I looped the thrid antenna around the space surrounding the hard drive, there's abolutely no need to open the screen casing. Actually, the further away the 3rd antenna is from the other two the better - for optimum Wireless N signal.

The entire upgrade took less then 30 minutes.

I used to get 11% signal in the front room (looong way away) and connection drop-outs every 10 minutes...it's now 55% strong and I haven't had a single drop-out.

A good resource for helping to take the case apart is:

Let me know how you get on if you undertake this upgrade, would be good to know my experience helped others.

It also uses less power, too.

You can get an Intel 5300 for about £15 on eBay.

I know, but I've used the N300 before on an EEE upgrade (wife's pc) and know it works well for my network/range/router...so opted for this one. Valid point though if you want to reduce the cost.

Thanks for that. I'm toying with the idea myself as I have very similar reception to you (prior to upgrade). Are you actually running a draft N router?

Yep, upgrading to draft N pci-e module without it wouldn't make much (if any) difference.

Can I do the same for my NC20?

Thanks - did just as you said and great improvement!
Got card off fleabay bit cheaper from US but did take 12 days to arrive - never mind.
Just a tip, better to download the driver and utility before installation, I forgot and had to connect with Ethernet to get driver installed.
