Santander - Compensation

I thought I would make a thread about how Santander customers can get back at the bank for being general scum. I have been a Santander customer for a while, and as many of you may agree, their customer service department is atrocious, this simply do not care about their customers, and they don't even try to hide the fact.

I would have closed my account down ages ago had it not been for the fact that I am overseas and changing will be a real pain.

Anyway I regularly call Santander by telephone banking to make Faster Payment transfers between my Santander account and another bank account, because my Santander account is for ad hoc payments I receive and I don;t had a debit card attached, whereas with my other account I do.

So about 50% of the time when I call to make the transfer they screw it up by either not making the transfer at all, or not putting it through as a Faster Payment. They will say things like "oh but we can't guarantee it will go through as a faster payment", to which I reply "well if there is no option for faster payment then please do not make the transfer at all".

They will also tell a bunch of lies saying things like "but FP can only be done in the branch and not on the phone", or "you have to pay extra for faster payments". They are extremely reluctant to put through FP for some reason that I haven't figured out yet.

So I make sure every time I call I take the name of the CS person, and note the time of the call. Then when they screw up the transfer I sent an email to ceo@santader.co.uk and make an email complaint, and say something like "I was relying on that payment going through to pay my credit card bill"., I try to make out that the situation is a real disaster, as they tend to give more compensation that way. More often that not I have received £60 credit straight into my bank for each complaint, and in the last few months I have probably been compensated over £500. If you put your phone number on the email they will call you back.

They have now written a letter to me saying that they will not be compensating me any further and they are reviewing their business relationship with me!. At no point have I asked for compensation, it has always been offered by them.

So i'm ready to close my account now, but I thought I would share this method so some of you can get back at this bank, because i'm sure they have caused many of their customers misery.

Also on internet banking they have recently offered an upgrade to the online banking service where you can make FP transfers online, don't upgrade if you haven't done already, because then you can't cash in on their woefully inadequate CS department.

Seems to be a general thing though, they will genuinely compensate you if it's there own fault. Not just Santander, RBS, Barclays etc... Key to it is being polite.

I'm waiting for them to close my account, I just can't wait
A thread to get back at the bank for being 'general scum'?

This from a person who by there own admission regularly seeks to defraud by stating they have suffered loss when they haven't, to get financial compensation?!

I think I know who really is 'the scum'.

Excuse me??, if I request a service and it's not done, plus I get lied to, how is that not a loss?
Not read the OP but I've probably had back about £500 too from Santander due to their failings in life.
oh so a bit of fraud going on as well oO

how so? They make mistakes and waste my time, I tells them I don't like my time wasting and they tells me they'll make up for my wasted time with some compensations moneys.
You lie to repeatedly get compensation & then call them scum, chancers like you are as bad as the banks.

TBH, i wouldnt put up with any financial institute messing up my finances. I would close the account down myself, before they do, at the risk of it looking bad on your part/on your credit report. Heard allot about Santanders shocking services.
awful awful company, i had a big issue about simply changing my address on my credit card ad they kept telling me i had to call in to a branch to do it even though there is no branch here, one guy even suggested i took a flight!

after numerous phone calls and letters, i got £100 cheque as compensation.

closed the account soon after

Got 25 quid off them after I had a change of debit card and they did not cancel my old card.

Only with them as u was with a&l think I shall switch soon.

Also add HSBC are just as bad
Do Santander give money to everyone? I think I need to complain more, my bank have messed up loads of times & I just take it on the chin.
Dunno where your loses are OP - they've failed to undertake closure of an account - how much money has this cost?
Fair play to the OP. I used to threaten to leave Barclaycard every few months because other companies were offering cashback and each time they'd offer me £50-£60 to "reconsider" staying with them. In reality I'd never close the account down as it's the only credit card I have which doesn't attract fees for gambling transactions.

I got a hamper as a way of apology for the recent bad service I had with Santander. I'll close my account once my ISA has matured and been transferred and when my interest current account is now longer earning 5% interest. By the way, anyone else noticed the typo on the popup when you log into Online Banking?

On what basis do you make that statement, are you able to read?
I'd been with Santander for over 25 years and closed my account in March or so i though, took them 3 months to close it and me arguing with them to get my own money out of my own account , purely because they mess up when i have even more fraud on my account, they kept saying they'd sent cards, i never got them and the cards were used, I went to Lloyds and they requested all my DD info so they could notify the companies , Did Santander give it? no they flipping didnt! so now this month i have double payments coming out of the bank for almost everything apart from the mortgage.

Ive had to fight to get my money back after all the fraud, they didnt give a damn about it, Ive had to fight to close my account and to get my money out. total nightmare. never again. im still not sure if they did close my account last week!
I have no idea what number I should call to find out how I can get help with this,I was seeing to my daughter and grandson who at the time was thought to be very poorly ,so I knew I could afford to get over to Liverpool asap as my money was secure in my account, bearing in mind she was away from home for the first time and this is my first grandchild, so I flew over to find all was well thank god and returned home relived,on root home I asked the driver to stop at a ATM so I could draw the fare to find the screen saying I had no funds!so panic I tryed again and after repeated tries was then told I was overdrawn, I now need to recover this money that I certainly shouldn't have been left owing, I was terribly ashamed as it seemed he thought I had tried to not pay as the fare was sizable, pls can anyone help, I cannot keep ignoring my door.so embarresed.sorry so long winded just don't know what I can do about this.
