    A news report from 2007?

sky news saying that Libyan rebels have told them its true

however lets wait for official channels

100% sure no harm will come to them even if it is true

The only problem is that this will never be confirmed until something is either sorted out or happens. It will be a huge shame/mistake if something does happen because we could have another war on our hands.

Given what a huge PR disaster this is for UK Gov/FO they're not going to confirm unless they can put their positive spin on it first are they.

It's as likely they are assisting the rebel forces in overthrowing Gadafi as it is they have been kidnapped which is why they are saying nothing.

Indeed which is why they need their cover story fully done before they say anything.

The fact you keep posting the same story but from different news sources does not confirm it as true.

Where as silence mean it's not?
The news source list is growing also Sunday Times were one of the first, and BBC tends to be quite careful although they were merely reporting the rumour of it unlike other sources.

    Yes

As people keep telling you until MOD or Number 10 say so then its unconfirmed

The premise of that being if MOD/FO said nothing, for months for example, ,the sas unit were rumored for months to have been held then we must automatically believe it might never of occurred despite possible growing evidence ,for example, all onthe say of a government department?

    George Orwell would be proud.

I just hope the rebels make a statement, video, picture statement etc and that the soldiers are ok.

While I undersand media attention is the last thing that is needed for the soldiers the world doesn't work like that anymore imo.
No Government Department is Gospel in all things.

Eight SAS soldiers have been taken hostage by rebels in Libya, according to Sky sources.

Rebel sources told Sky News that the group were being held in Libya's second city in Benghazi.

They were among a group of around 22 soldiers and one diplomat who are believed to have been dropped by helicopter in an area south of the city.

Only eight were detained and it is expected that the hostages will be released either today or tomorrow.

There is speculation it could be an attempt by the rebels to ensure the interim Libyan council receives diplomatic recognition.

The SAS's intervention has allegedly angered Libyan opposition figures who ordered the armed and plain-clothes soldiers to be locked up on a military base.

Opponents of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's fear he could use any evidence of western military interference to rally patriotic support for his regime.

Sky News defence correspondent Niall Paterson said: "The feeling in London is that the rebels who have taken the SAS members and junior diplomat are simply making a point.

"There is no feeling this will end badly."

Not the brightest move sending the SAS into rebel controlled territory. They trained Gaddafi's troops after all. Hardly going to popular with the rebels.
