    Sat Nav

    Hi all,

I am going to the US in a couple of weeks and I would need a sat nav to show us the way. Could anyone recommend a reasonable priced one (must be less than £100). Would be great if maps are included or can be cheaply obtained from the internet.

    Many thanks!

If you can't get one in this country, when you arrive in USA go to a large store like Walmart or KMart where you can usually get them for about $100 and up (about £60 upwards). Obviously these will be specifically for USA, possibly Canada also, but I'm note sure. If you get a UK satnav you can buy a programme of maps of USA online but you will probably pay as much as the £60 mentioned above. Maybe other HUKD readers can suggest a cheaper source. Hope you get fixed up.

I forgot to mention, when you purchase items in USA it is net of tax. But sales tax is usually about 7%.

alternatively if you've an unlocked android phone then just use free google maps..get a local PAYG US sim with some data..Just make sure your phone's quadband (i.e. supports freq 900/1800/1900/2100MHz) If the SIM runs on 850MHZ don't even bother buying it ( the sim ) as it won't work
If you don't already own an android then a cheap android phone is that Samsung Apollo @ £79 PAYG at carphone ..even better than their £200 Samsung Mini which is priced @ £200

Or buy a suitable ovi maps compatible Nokia phone. They are often available for £50 and a holder and car charger can be had for a few quid on ebay/amazon. You could probably pick up a second hand phone for even less. I still have my 5800 for satnav use.

Agreed, the advantage being that they work without using the phone network. 5230 can be got nice and cheap.

thanks for all your comments guys. I have a Nokia with Ovi maps but when I was in the USA last time it never picked up a satellite... It works fine in the UK, but no idea why no signal could be found
in the USA. Anyway, seems I can borrow a sat nav from someone, so that problem is then solved
