Hey - I would appreciate anyones advice/suggestions on what Sat Nav unit I should go for next after my TomTom 300 finally died on me last night mid journey after months of faults which included freezing and non recognition of software (the damn list goes on and on...).

Anyhow - never had a Garmin so I dont know about them and although the new TomTom (520/720) sound promising - I've read mixed reviews over their reliability too so I guess its only logical to ask the masses on here what they have and take it from there - I would prefer something with European mapping on it for when I go abroad in the next few months!

Have you considered a PDA type satnav kit ?? . I bought a Navman PIN 570 last year from Halfords for only £99. Great thing it is , runs on WM2003 ,giving you the capabilities to view doc & excel files , view photos & films . I bought a Wi-Fi SD card ,so now has internet acess . The thing comes with SmartST included ,but by using a bigger SD card I transfered SmartST & TomTom6 with the European map to the one card and now have both . I now wouldn't be without satnav when I'm out driving to new locations but with with a PDA I have so much more .

I have a TomTom One XL Europe and it took us across France, Belgium, Holland and Norther Spain without a hitch last summer; I use it for long journeys around the UK nowadays and it's been faultless. It's my only experience but I'd have no problem recommending it to anyone.

I'll be going over to Ireland next month and will take it with me for the hire car and check it out over there.

]ricko: what PDA do you have? It's something I'd be interested in going with as I have both a PDA and a TomTom and would like to combine them.
Be good, Dio

How long have you had the TT. Consumer law states that the trader has responsibility for the product way after the gurantee. It is based on how long a reasonable person would expect the product to work for. Most white goods is 6 years.

I have both Garmin & Tom Tom.
I bought the garmin first because it had good maps of N ireland & bought the Tom Tom whilst in holiday in the USA - (USA maps too expensive for Garmin).

The Tom Tom is good but no use in N Ireland -not sure about S. Ireland. The Garmin is easier to use and seems to have more accurate, in depth maps.

I believe that Garmin now has a fairly reasonably priced GPS with USA & Europe on it so thats the one I would go for. Don't forget, most of the roads will always be there so even if used infrequently, could be useful in USA unless you decide never to go there, then just get the European one.

I have the TT750 - works plenty good for me:thumbsup:
