Sata Hard Drive - Connection to IDE motherboard

Ok - so I need to connect a ITB SATA Seagate drive to an older Dell machine that currently has a 100gb IDE drive - I'm assuming that this must be a frequent(ish) problem.

I've found cables that I think will do the job - just wondered if any more technically capable people have a cheaper solution? A quick Scan/Ebuyer sreach hasn't revealed much.

Thanks for any help.

try google with hong kong electronic outlets like b2cshop24.com/en/…GBP

eBay item number 280297912235 will do you nicely. It'll use the same internal parts as the Amazon options too, except without the epic markup.

delaextreme has some IDE SATA adaptor for less than a fver. like this:

If you do choose to use this option beware of the fact that some of these cards with the Via chipsets don't allow booting from a drive attached to them.

I need a Sata to IDE convertor. Will that blue deal extreme one do?

Ebay 280298301105 has everything you need, for £3. Probably the best option.

Wow! that's stupendously cheap. Seems a better option that faffing with cables as it seems to clip directly on to the SATA and then the IDE socket on the motherboard - only fly is that it doesn't state it's Vista compatible?

Anyone used one with Vista?

Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

Only for hard drive / optical will probably struggle unless you can flash the bios on the card to do non raid.

Or if the card is non-raid to start with even then chipset dependant on whether odd work as they should

Via not the best chipset(add on card) for optical use either way well not the newer ones, sata odd like 163a/b will not unlock if (6421A) and PIO sata troublesome using via
