I'm looking into getting a new Hard drive and i have this motherboard currently, MSI K9VGM-V K8M890 Socket AM2 onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard, it says it supports SATA150, which is SATA if i'm correct. I'm looking at getting this hard drive ebuyer.com/pro…214 which is SATA-II will it work? I've read lots of conflicting reports, some people say that SATA-II motherboards are backwards compatible with SATA drives, but SATA-II drives are not compatible with SATA motherboards. While other people have said that it will be fine.

I presume it must be compatible because i can't find a SATA drive anywhere, only SATA-II, obviously i wouldn't get the same speed as SATA-II unless i changed the motherboard, but that doesn't bother me, i just need more space!!!

google the board but it is an oldish chipset so that may be right, not all drives will work with some sata chipsets so make sure the lower speed can be selected by a jumper on the drive.
Any decent salesperson will be able to point you to one that does, confirm requirement for such with a written/email order
