    Save Sleaford Rec...

I don't remember which HUKDer started this epetition but I received an email response to it...

    "Thank you for your e-petition.

Parliament has entrusted local planning authorities with responsibility for day-to-day planning control in their areas. It is right that, in general, they should be free to carry out their duties responsibly, with the minimum of interference from central Government. It is therefore reasonable to expect elected local authorities to represent the interests of their communities when determining planning applications and, in doing so, have regard to all material considerations, which can include views expressed by local residents and other third parties.

In general, intervention in planning applications only occurs if planning issues of more than local importance are involved that could give rise to substantial regional or national controversy, or which may conflict with national policy on important matters.

The Government Office for the East Midlands received a third party request from a Sleaford resident to call-in the planning application, now the subject of this petition. We are aware that this application is of concern to a significant number of local residents. The outcome of the Government Offices scrutiny of the application was that having carefully considered all relevant planning issues raised by the proposal together with all representations received, and having regard to his policy on call in, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government concluded that there is not sufficient conflict with national planning policies on the above matters, or any other sufficient reason, to warrant the call in of the application for his own determination. Having taken a decision in this matter the Secretary of State is unable to comment further. Only the Courts have the power to reconsider the local planning authoritys earlier decision to approve the subject application."
