Scalextric question

Found 2nd Aug 2014
Hi,
My son has a digital scalextric set which is about 5 years old ,
but i got loads of extra track from a car boot sale the other day which had about 40 track pieces , 2 x Power bases ,
4 controllers all for a quid
My question is i've never understood why the power base has 2 power inputs
so is it possible for me to plug in 2 power bases into one track so i can control 4 cars or does it not work like that?

The cheap track is Scalextric Sport, not Digital. You can use the track with the Digital controller / power but not, afaik, with the Sport power bases.
With the two Sport bases you could create a four lane track - assuming you have the right radius curves - but you can't use two Sport power bases on one two lane track.

Thanks for that .
i didn't realise they were not digital thats probably why i have been getting confused googling about digital bases ,
so least its not all wasted as i can use the track if i buy a digital power base

You have Scalextric Sport track, this is a new version of their Classic track although Sport has probably been about for over 10 years now. The reason your power base has two power inputs is to give an even amount of power to each lane, so that when one car comes off the track the other one doesnt get a sudden surge of electricity. The reason they have a switch for 1/2 is due to the fact they only supply one transformer in the box to help keep costs down. If you want another transformer I have a spare, and happy to post at cost.

Sorry fogot to add Digital has a different power base altogether, controllers, lap counter, plus you add in lane changing curves and straights so you can race on both lanes. The cars have to be digital too, however it uses all the other sport track pieces.

thanks for the offer but I've got transformers,
I'm going to have a look at a new digital power base for 2-4 cars I'm guessing the 2 cars that came in the scalextric sports set are not digital cars either then .
them 2 cars have seen better days now anyway so I'll look into some new digital cars also.
thanks for the info
