Asus P6T Deluxe V2, Intel X58, SLi/Xfire, Sok 1366, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 1066/1333/1600(OC), SATAII, ATX + Intel i7 920, D0 SLEBJ S1366, Nehalem, 2.66 GHz, QPI 4.8GT/s, 8MB Cache, 20x Ratio, 130W, Retail.

£396.75 inc vat

The cache size could be better but it isn't too bad for the price, especially with an i7. Are you sure you don't want an AMD if you don't care about the branding? Might be cheaper...

Word of warning though, others will want more detail before telling you what they think...

I was reading up on the AMD Phenom x4 but it's got bad reviews which is a shame as it's a cheaper alternative.

Agree that the i7's are very expensive at the mo, i like the sound of the i7 965 but at £700 + there is no way i'll be having one

The Phenoms are rubbish but the Phenom IIs are pretty good (although not up to the standard of the i7).

The i7 is the best processor you can currently get, but at £400 I guess it's paired with a fairly poor graphics card, what are the rest of the specifications?

The 955 Black Edition is a great value processor, not that different when playing most games but a fraction of the price of an i7. I'd go for a better board though, ddr3 without the limit on RAM, like this one for a tenner more (although isn't every upgrade just another tenner more!)

Thanks for all the replies

Think i'll wait and hopefully the i7's will come down in price, as it's going to be a new system i'm wanting windows 7 which isn't out till october anyway, so plenty of time.

They won't, they're due to be discontinued when the mid-range i5s come out in the autumn. I don't know if they'll end up being better though.

That's that out of the question then :x

I have purchased the 1TB HD that was posted on here, and also the 512mb Graphics Card that was also posted on here.

I was going to get the asus P6T Deluxe & i7 920 processor costing £400
Also going to get 6gb Ram costing just over £100
Also 620w PSU costing £90
300gb WD Velociraptor HD at £160

But after adding all that up, not including the case and OS it's going to be shy of £800, way to much for a pc just to browse the net, so i'm thinking just a basic quad core now, something cheap but fast for browsing, and burning discs

So if anyone can throw some suggestions my way for Mobo & CPU i'll be greatful.

Had a look at the links and although not a bad price, goin to see if i can get slightly cheaper :whistling:

Hi apples33, I've a basic, cheap single-core PC that's fast for browsing & burning disks. Could you please let us know why you need a quad-core for these activities?

What's your current spec? Perhaps a little more RAM (if 1Gb or under) & OS reinstall will give it a fresh lease of life

Try secondhand - there are many bargains to be had

P.S. This isn't too bad for the money: ]Extra Value Desktop PC Intel Dual Core E5300 4GB RAM 500GB HDD DVDRW = £220 @ eBuyer

I meant 2 core not quad core typo

My current spec is P4 2.8ghz, 2gb Ram.

When i burn discs using Nero, the buffer goes right down to 0% then i get a write error, tried both my DVDRW drives, updated the firmware and tried different media, 8 out of 10 times it will work?!

I'd like to upgrade ready for Windows 7, i'm still using XP, never bothered with vista.

I'm still thinking about my first choice the P6T Deluxe with an i7 CPU

Was thinking about that PC, but that CPU is so cheap now that could probably build better for not a lot more money

Fair enough . I'll let you off the hook this time (but watch yourself :p)

Something else seems the matter. I've burnt DVDs in the past with a much lower spec than that. Have you tried other burning software - perhaps just to see if it makes a difference? I use this free one: ]Ashampoo Burning Studio 2009

I'm still thinking about my first choice the P6T Deluxe with an i7 CPU

As already mentioned by dcx_badass, it's not very good value - & unless you need a fast-performing, high-end system for a very specific reason.

I reckon that's what you should do, but an i7 system for surfing, burning & a few basic tasks is way overkill.

Will try that free software, thanks for that

Agreed about the i7, i've been looking for other alternatives, but the price isn't much difference so thought i might as well stick with my first choice.

Will have another look at not so high-end core 2 CPU's there's got be something that i like thats cheap :whistling:
