PIcture in second post.

Basically, I got a letter saying due to the law they were giving us a new meter. Got it installed, and today my direct debit was increased by £40 a month , grrr.

Apparantly due to the increased usage.

On close inspection they removed the old meter at 41882 reading, and installed the new one at 55622. Bloody crooks. Is this for real?

Theyre closed today so I cant even rectify this.

Yep, that sounds like Scottish Power.

When my meter got replaced (old one was broken and I think the cold snap last year did it in) I was only charged what I had actually used, it did take some explaining to EDF mind, so if I were you I'd call them and explain, you might get someone who is actually helpful and can understand where the problem is.

realy annoyed, even went as far as turning everything off till I realised.

cant believe that, my job is fitting utility meters and that looks like an old meter, the new meters are digital and start from zero, what part of the country are you in and was it edf of meter+ that installed the meter?

I had a "new" meter about 5 years ago. That didn't start with a zero.

Numbers on my Meter go back the way now & again for some reason ;-)

Surely though you're using the same amount of energy so it should cost the same?

The price increase might just be coincidental.

Looking at your picture, the label on the left states your old meter reading, and what 'might' be the reading the new one started at?

Just call them tomorrow to ask about it.

This most definately looks old style. My dad had one of these, 20 years ago.

When our meter was changed the new one didn't start at zero. However, they made a note of the old meter reading and the new one, and it was all squared off on our next bill.

I would phone them & tell them you don't want an increase in your d/d payments - they can't increase them without your approval.

Just call them and ensure they are billing with the correct meter details, you will need the serial number.

The billing system should have details of the old meter and the reading it was removed at and the start reading of the replacement meter.

Online billing m8. They changed the DD to £120 a month.

Lol, it doesnt matter if the meter starts at 00000 or 99999- it will have been noted by the installer unless of course he was wearing a mask and answered to the name of richard turpin.
