Scottish widows letter

I've had a letter from Scottish widows asking me to update my details including my national insurance number. As far as I remember I haven't had any policies with them. They claim they have been sending letters which have been returned but I haven't received any and I've lived in the same house for over a decade.
Is it a scam?
