    Scotty Boy re Medion re-install

Im looking to put it back to how it was when i first got the netbook, windows xp.It appears to be running slow, plus the malware issue which seems to be fine after your help.

as i said in another post i have the recovery disc/s, external hd etc, is it a case of just putting the disc in & following prompts ?

it has one hd but in two parts, i hope this makes sense, one half in my computer says boot (c) local disc & the other says recover (d) local disc .

    many thanks.

To restore the netbook to its factory state, you need to hold down F3 at bootup, if I remember rightly, and that should select the Recovery partition. Just follow the prompts. This should be quicker than using the Recovery DVD, but the result is the same.

Remember to back up all your data as it will overwrite everything on the C: drive.

The msiwind.net forum is sort of back, under new management, so to speak. Much of msiwind.net has been archived and accessible bar the last few months, which were wiped in a server crash.

The link below is to the English manual for the Medion Akoya E1210 and if you check out page 68 (if you go to that page via Adobe Acrobat Reader) it covers the restore process via the secondary recovery partition on the netbook (from all accounts it's a Symantec Ghost image file, which does the restore.

F3 isnt an option for me  It dosnt allow me to use this option,Ihit F3 and nowt just carries on loading windows, been reading through the MSIWIND forum & archives, it appears a few people have the same problem with the F3 button also ive been reading about inserting the restore disc in an external drive etc, but i might be getting confused now about the recovery partion, do i have to delete that first or will the restore disc over-write everything

    *and breath*

now to the un-trained eye it might look like i know what im talking about, but i havnt a clue:oops:

[FONT=Verdana]Generally a recovery CD/DVD will generally overwrite everything on the hard disk - I didn't get on bundled with the Medion (purchased via the Sainsburys deal earlier in the year) but I would say go for it and see what happens.

No probs - thankfully I had a Windows XP Home Edition CD kicking around when I had to rebuild the one I purchased. Please let us know how it goes and fingers crossed it's going to be fairly straightforward to get it back up & running for you.

Scotty Boy, I've sorted my pc, I had to wipe it & re-install everything, took about 2 hours in all, but its like using a new computer, not as bad a job as i thought, only thing was we had to change the preference of drives at the start up screen (if that makes sense) just going through it now to get it to how it was before, minus the viruses of course.

many thanks for all your help

[FONT=Verdana]No probs mate - remember to install antivirus and firewall software as soon as you can before you attempt to download any updates from the Microsoft Update website; would recommend downloading the antivirus & firewall software on another computer, copy them over to a USB stick, install them off of that and then connect to the internet to download all of the antivirus & firewall updates...ps, I'm paranoid. ;-)
