    Scrapping cars breaking etc

Does anyone know whats the best way to go about getting rid of my car, I obviously want as much as I can get ... I dont want £30 or whatever for some numpty to sell all the parts seperate

The car was crashed in Feb 09...I drove it until Sep 09 when the electrics failed...I left it on my drive...Dec 09, The car is now a write-off...(cos the insurance company finally managed to assess the damage incurred Feb 09)

So am I best advertising for breaking....being a write off (Can you do this??)

Or better off just letting somebody have it for peanuts etc.??

When you say that the car is now a write off, who/what decided that?

are you buying it back off insurance company then?

Strange. Why category was it written off as, i.e. Cat A/B/C/D?

be careful who you sell it too - scrapped cars have a habit of getting back onto the road... and it could be back on the road it your name.
happened to a friend of mine who sold his 'for parts' - he still gets parking tickets for it!
wishes he had it crushed now as it's taken so long to get it sorted with DVLA.

Not sure..Total loss, saying that, I had drove it for months after..it was repairable in my opinion, the electrics are a common fault clio immobiliser, unrelated to crash imo..

all it was is drivers side headlight, crushed :-)

    Not a mess

Well you need to find out before any advice can be useful

I was offerered £50-£100 for my van by my local breakers so i drove it to the scrap metal place and they gave me £160 scrap, depends on the age and condition of the car.
I also had a car written off which i took to the breaker, it was only cosmetic damage on one side, car was worth over 3k before the accident, they offered me £200, so i sold it on ebay for £500.

As the seller he should have completed the V5 form along with the buyer, so really it's his own fault, and probably why it's taken the DVLA so long because there are so many blaggers out there trying to avoid tickets (not saying he is one, but you know what I mean). V5 should be completed even if the car is being scrapped.

Also for the OP - not sure what car you have but might be worth finding a forum for that particular model etc, like an owners club. Some people might be interested in different parts of the vehicle, and selling individual parts you might gain more money, it's a bit hit and miss though.

They do because nobody stops them :x

In which case it can be sold on to a member of the public and put back on the road following a VIC test (if required).

sell the car as a complete write off as someone will repair the vehicle and stick it back on road.if you dont want to do that declare it as scrapped via your V5 logbook and flog the bits on e bay :o)

As the car has damage and electric fault it might be harder to sell the best thing to do would sell some parts off it which you can sell on ebay or specialist forum then with what you have got left just take it to scrap metal place and you should get abit more money. As its a clio it might not get that much in the scrap metal but its better than nothing.

Someone may be interested in it for banger racing, autograss etc sure the immobiliser problem wont be hard to bypass with some basic knowledge.

read your logbook theres a form inside to declare the vehicles been scrapped, therefore preventing another person from cloning your vehicles reg etc etc

I was responding to scrapping it and then selling the parts yourself

A C/D write off can be treated as any other car, A and B can't.

Cat B is for parts only so the same as C/D in that case. Apart from 'possible' environment agency issues you can break it yourself:thumbsup:
