SCS - (Sofa's) HOw much discount can you really push for ??

Hi,

In the market for a new sofa and seen one in SCS which we like.

Went to store today, got chatting with the manager trying to do a deal on it for a cash sale (rather than credit),

He managed to knock off £100 off the shop floor SALE price and wanted to do the deal there and then... but we just want to hold out to make 100% sure its the right one for us..

How much discount do you think you can push to get off a sofa ? I wonder what percentage of mark up is on each item

The thing I have found in the last couple of days while sofa shopping, a lot of the sales staff are doing the "selling" and demo's etc, however when it comes to the deal part the manager is coming over and taking over ?

Im getting the impressing a few of these companies at smaller site locations are crying out for business and seem a bit desperate..

Also.... anyone know of any other main stream sofa suppliers ?? Been to all the SCS, DFS, CSL, Stonehouse, Furn Village etc.

Depends what price it originally is.

You got £100 off, but what was the marked price?

'Cash deals' shouldn't make a difference. The whole point of a 'cash deal' was to get the VAT knocked off so the seller could pocket the cash and the buyer would get a discount - illegal.

Nowadays, stores get commission for selling credit to buyers so offering cash shouldn't help.

The way I always do deals is to have a price in mind that you want to pay for an item and stick to it. If it's not possible, then go elsewhere. More often that not though, as long as you're being reasonable, you'll get it for the price you want it.

How much are you happy paying for it? Stick to that price and see what happens.

Its only £1400 and £100 off that without asking as such.

As said above - SCS will make money from the finance company for selling credit. They will actively try to discourage cash sales because of this.

They sell interest free how can they make money from credit ?

because the finance company will pay a fee to them for signing someone into a credit agreement.

That person then defaults on payments so the credit company can make money then.

Is it on the website:-

http://www.scs.co.uk/

Point it out and I will see if I can find it cheaper.

when we went to them a few years ago to buy a sofa they refused our cash and told us they only sold their sofas on credit oO i took my custom elsewhere

try one of you local stores not a high branded named store, we bought our new suite for less then a quarter of the price BHS is selling the exact same suite and next day delivery too.
They even knocked off another £100 for cash
