How do you know it was an Arsenal fan? X)

As WTP said, cant the repair wait?

Chips away are very good for chips. Not so sure on a long key line. (that wasnt a negative - i just not seen a job for this)

    insurance?

Does it really need paying? A scratch doesnt affect your car's performance.

    Maybe try T-cut first.

if only your car was still usable and the damage could wait

it is useable just unsightly its more a case that i hate it that jealous scum think its acceptable

scratch the other side and it'll look trendy

Ive used chips away...they are not good for large areas but not bad for small scratches. I had a black car and the guy left ghost marks where it want polished properly so had to call him back twice. Still not 100% but its better than respraying. Good luck.

He/She would lose no claims, Premiums would rise, Over the years the difference in premiums would probably be more than £450 plus the excess.

The scratch could wait, However if they're deep scratches you might want to try and prevent rust somehow, Especially as it's winter.

no chance of polishing it well if it was an old banger but my car is pristine and my pride and joy so I've got to restore it

think ill sell it and buy a golf

But doesn't your no claims bonus only get lost if you were at fault. In this example, the owner of the car was helpless. This seems unfair!!!

^ doesn't matter they are claiming off their own insurance, only time your premium is not really affected is when you claim off a third parties insurance.

Find yourself a good detailer..specialise in restoring your car back to its former glory as long as its not down to the metal.

thought it went without saying that its pointless claiming on car insurance for small amounts......

Aren't there some policies that its not a claim when its vandalism? Im sure that was First Direct - though that's I who use and I cant remember it being mention. Just remember the ads with the bricks falling in the car!

Wouldnt affect my NCB as its protected and my excess is £50. But I expect the premiums would get loaded, so even with that, its debatable if its worthwhile.

LOL - are you for real?

I agree...I would personally pay for it instead of going through my insurance. Depends on your final bill I guess

Get an independant rough quote, then phone your insurance and ask them whther it's worthwhile given you policy.

Unless everyone sees the small print and conditions of your policy it's pretty hard to say whether an insurance claim would be worthwhile.

Sorry, I don't have any practical advice. I do sympathise as I would be very upset.

Things like this can really get you down, especially if you have other upsetting things to deal with. It wasn't personal, just some mindless, jealous idiot. The pathetic individual must lead a rubbish life if they get their kicks from mindless defacing.

I know it doesn't affect the performance of the car but I would be upset seeing it every day and would want it repaired. However if money is tight, try not to dwell on it and have it done at a better financial time.

Best wishes to you and your partner. X

so insurance is basically a farce, theres a surprise.

gosh, some people are just idiots, they haven't been brought up correctly I suppose

If i were you i would leave the scratch for a couple of months at least.

The people who did this would probably do it again if they notice you had it repaired such is the mentality of these dirtbags. You need to come off their radar for a bit and then get it done.

Get a primer pen if it has gone down to the metal (Just in case it rusts).
Then get some go faster acrylics from ebay, and put a line of nice stickers down the side..

I think the £450 would be better off going to the other half, sounds like they could use a treat, rather than a pointless touch up. Priorities

Takes some piccies of it, ring police and get a crime number & T Cut if for now

Then when you do have half an hour to sit & think about it, you can decide then how you are going to move forward. Its hard coping with everything & on top of that this problem comes along.

Hugs & best wishes to you & your partner.

Get a touch up paint from the dealer and paint in the scratch yourself. Dont use the brush supplied use a fine brush from and arty farty shop and then laquer it.

Have a practice first on something else to get a steady hand technique (_;)

You can hope at least. Some see it as a recurring souce of 'fun'.
Its only if they think they are about to be caught that they will stop. Police are usually useless in these situations.
Are you on the way home from any pubs or places that sell alcohol? Thats my guess.

    Oh supermarket...
That will be someone who is annoyed you parked too close.
Ask supermarket security if they have cctv

My brand new mini cooper was 1 month old when I went to Bristol Zoo, someone keyed it all the way down one side. Cost £300 to have it repaired, and it never looked right after that. It is not so much the colour as they basically sand the lacquer, colour in the area marked then re lacquer, but the lacquer they used was poor quality or rushed etc, it left the paint looking dull with a bad orange peel effect on it. Anyways I would get a quote from BMW which I know sounds silly but the labour charges in bodyshop are half of the mechanics side of it, even if it is £100 more you can go and complain if it is not done right. A good spray job will be 99% perfect.

£500 to get the car back to normal would be worth it, it's a nice car so keep it looking nice.

As far as insurance comments, insurance is useless in my opinion, the main reason we buy it is to make our cars legal on the road, really the reason should be to protect us if we have an accident or if someone vandalises our property, but they wiggle their way out of paying for these things through the pages of terms and conditions, plus if you claim on this it could almost double the premium next time round, which is unfair as far as im concerned.

PS - if you are thinking of swapping the car, if you tell the dealer about it when you part ex, they will prob knock a couple hundred quid off the cars part ex value, which is cheaper than getting it done. (the dealer will have a trade bodyshop)
