Seagate or WD for a Mac i5?

Just got a Mac i5 and I am looking into purchasing an external hardrive. I wonder which one is best?

I went on some Mac forums but I got even more confused than I was!

Are Seagate or Western Digital indeed best for Macs? And if so which?

seagate barracudas running at 7200 rpm are fine for external drives
Western Digital Raptor WD740GD are faster running at 10000 rpm great for macs internally
even better solid state drives for your mac system
if you just want an external drive any will do really
just remember to get a drive running at least 7200 rpm and SATA

thank you!

What about software - if I have Time Machine on my Mac - will that suffice?
