Searching for claimed life insurance and pension policy's

    Hi,

Was wondering whether anyone knew how to go about searching for claimed and unclaimed life insurance policy's and pensions.
A bit about my family life- yep the boring bit.
My mum and my siblings left home many years ago when I was 5 after a extremely abusive relationship, we left home with just the clothes on our backs and nothing else. Couple of years later my 'dad' died and my mum had to try and track his life insurances and pensions, but couldn't remember all the policy's that they had. My 'dad's' brother in law worked in insurance and we had proof from 1 of the life insurance company that he tried to claim at least one of my dad's life insurances, his details was all on the paper that they sent to us. We are certain he has managed to claim some, as apparently there was quite a lot that was made. My mum cannot recall the names of the companies.
So I was wondering if anyone knew how to search for claimed and unclaimed life insurances, the website i have found said they only can search for unclaimed assets, which isn't what we're mainly looking for, as we're looking for the details on who claimed any of his life insurances as these were done fraudulently, as my mum was the next of kin. They were married for 14 years living together and they never divorced and they had 3 children.
The website I found is this ;uar.co.uk
I appreciate any help or advise thank you.

Thanks for the link, but we don't have no paper documents, only a couple of life insurances that we managed to claim, but my mum knows they made loads of life insurances with so many different companies, some with his name only and some with hers. As we left home, we didn't take anything with us, so it's impossible to know what company names.

    Tracing a life insurance policy
If you are trying to find out if you, a relative or friend has a life insurance policy, but you do not have the policy document and do not know the name of the insurance company that issued it:

check your own, or the other person's, bank account / credit card statements for evidence of payments to an insurer
contact the Unclaimed Assets Register online or by phone on 084 4481 8180

I emailed that website, and they only search for unclaimed assets.
I am mainly looking for a service that searches for claimed insurances with the persons details who the insurance went to.

not sure i don't think you can find out those details unless you know the insurer.

maybe ask the brother in law say you'll sue as he claimed the policy fraudulently

Thanks for your input, I don't think so neither. But I'm hoping if anyone on here may know, or can advice and hopefully prove me wrong. Enjoy the rest of your evening

We have no contact with my 'dads' side of the family. We have the letter from the company that has the brother in laws details as the person trying to claim his insurance, so we know he has tried to claim some of his insurances.

The insurance that provided us the letter said that he was very persistent in claiming the insurance and it was a large sum. But they thought something dodgy was happening and didn't give it to him, and the company was searching for my mum for a long time. They managed to track my mum down, but knowing he has tried to claim this, we have no doubt in our mind he tried to claim others, and probably succeeded in claiming the insurances. That's why I want to find a site that can help us, by providing the details on who claimed what insurance, as that ways we have proof that what he did was fraud.

i think you should try Unclaimed Assets Register he probably hasn't claimed any policy's you might aswell see if any are available if not then maybe somebody has claimed them.

I would say that you have no chance of finding the information on any claimed insurances if you have no documentation or details of insurers. BUT the police would be able to find this information and you already have evidence of fraud, from the claim the brother tried to make. The police will be able to look at bank accounts and trace any payments back to where they came from. They may well also be able to get the various companies to seach for policies that were claimed on. Contact the police, I would also call the Financial Services Authority who may well have the power to search on your behalf as it's government run.

Thank you for the advice, I very much attempt to do this, but not sure if the police would get involved or the FSA as we are talking about 10 years ago, so not sure whether they would be interested in helping.

you might aswell do it now so you can claim any money if available.Otherwise i think contacting the brother in law and threatening to sue to find out if he claimed any policy's.

Talk to the FSA/citizens advice/Police -it doesn't matter that it's been so long-fraud is fraud and a crime. Explain the situation to them and hope that you get to speak to someone empathetic.

    Good luck Justy.
I know nothing about these sort of things so can't help you.
I can only give you my love and support.

I believe companies only have to keep records for 6 years and technically after 6 years they can destroy documents - therefore may not be able to provide you with any information.

Thanks, that's good to know, I'll try asking my mum to ring one of the insurance company that we have claimed for and see whether they still have the details available on their records.

Thank you, I will leave the police as a last resort if I don't get any success with the other avenues.
