    Seatbelt Help

    Hi

I have a clio and the two rear seatbelts are stuck and the bolts are out as well. I was wondering whether anyone has had the same problem and know how much it should cost to fix?

    Many thanks for the help.

How did it pass it's MOT?

It didnt, just took it for a MOT and it failed :-( so wanted to know how much it would cost to fix and compare with what the garage said.

Also if I didnt get it fixed at a different garage will they charge me for a MOT retest?

    Thanks

Ahhh! Is it not something you could do yourself? If not then i wouldn't imagine it would cost a lot if it just needs freeing off and bolts putting back in (no more than £10)

Doesn't matter where you get it fixed you should get the retest at the same garage for free if within 7 days.

Not sure if I could do it myself because the seatbelt is stuck and cant pull it out to bolt it back on. The garage said that they are not sure about how much the part is as Renault is closed but labour will be £70-£85.

Ohh I didnt know that about the retest thought it was that if I dont get it fixed at that testing station then they can charge me a retest fee. Hmmm that is good to now! Thanks

That's expensive for the work involved. Your best bet if they can't be freed from the buckle is to get a couple of replacement units from a scrapyard and get a friend or family member to change them over as it's only a 10 minute job.

Hi, I had this problem and as money is short I got a replacement from car salvage/scrap yard and had the garage put it in for me, Id have rather bought new but couldn't afford it. Might be an option for you.

That thought had cross my mind but was thinking whether the process involved is difficult?

Try here ]http//ww…LT/ although personally I believe its best to find somewhere local as they will probably be cheaper. you can have anyone do the mot work, maybe save a bit on the labour costs, then have your re-test at your garage.

Not difficult at all but only do it if you feel confident enough as they are obviously crucial. lol

Local garages may have arrangements where you can remove test failures and return within 10 working days (or 7), for a free re test, BUT, this is the correct legislation and they could keep to the letter of the law, if they wanted to. Better to read this and be aware of the legislation...

Don't remove them, as suggested earlier, you do need them.

Thanks for the links am just looking through them at the moment, so does that mean each garage may have their own terms etc....

They werent too helpful as I understand Renault may not have been open to request the parts but they couldnt even tell me how much exactly labour was and what needed to be done. So thats why I want to go to a different garage for the repair!
