    Thank you.

I'm looking to buy a mountain bike.

    looking at around £200

I would prefer a new bike however they seem to be closer to £300 for a new half decent one.

Can anyone give me some recommendations?

    Thanks

Thanks, I've had a look but it seems that they sell for considerably more than £200

Thanks, not sure why Google didn't find that :L

I'm really looking for something a little better, so I'm happy to go second hand if need be.

Don't know where you are in the country, but this is a good bike for £200.....Mine cost £375 20 months ago and it's been a great bike that's withstood some really heavy riding in the peak district. In the last couple of years all bikes at a given price range have become lower spec'd and gone up in price with the newer model Kraken being a good example of getting less for more...the model shown was only replaced with the new kraken a year ago, so it's all modern kit. the sram X5 gears are the equivalent of shimano deore, and the XCR forks have lasted on mine really well, with the lockout staying rigid with no sag. As for the rip in the seat, just get a £18 charge spoon like a lot other MTBikers do

The information you have gave is useful, so isn't it possible to get a better bike second hand for around £200?

That bike in the link you sent me looks nice, I would have liked to have bid however its too far for me too collect

I like the look of the Rockrider 5.3 would that be a worthy upgrade for £70 extra for the 2011 edition? I can't seem to find them second hand either, I'm not sure why?

Yep....The 5.3 is a good buy for the money.

Thanks I will be certainly considering buying that however I'd be very grateful if someone would be able to give me some advice on this bike: i50.tinypic.com/2n8…jpg

Its second hand, in good condition.

Its a GT Agressor I believe. I see a similar one sold on eBay for £122 but without disk brakes. Can someone give me an idea of the value of this bike and is it okay?

The reason I'm asking is because I think I can get it fairly cheap.

If no good, I will definitely consider the 5.3.

It looks like a 10yr old agreeor xc3 with newer rims added. even though it's old the plus's are that it has reasonable kit like deore gears, better wheels added and GT frames are strong, so should still be pretty sound. Ride it and go through all the gears under load, spin the wheels through the breaks and look for buckles. listen for any noises coming from cranks. check that the front shock isn't to spongy under heavy breaking and over a few bumps. you can always upgrade the forks at a later date.)

It's hard to put an actual value on....how cheap is cheap, because just by age alone and wouldn't want to pay more than £90-£100 max.

I bought my son and XC'3 on ebay that had been ridden 3 times by some chaps girlfriend, was a year old at the time, immaculate with the strangely bits still on tyres for £160

As You haven't had many other opinions, you could always go and ask on the buying advice section on the bikeradar forums.
