See the International Space Station tonight.

The ISS ( International Space Station ) orbits the earth approx every 1 1/2 hours.
You can see it tonight from the U.K.
Look straight up into the sky at about 10 minutes to midnight and if all is ok, you should be able to see the Space Station travel across most of the sky.
It will be travelling roughly from West to East I.E. from roughly where the sun sets towards where the sun rises.
It should be visible for about 6 minutes.

Other good times to see it are shown.
Nearly 90 in the "Max Altitude" colum is good and the higher the negative number in the "Mag" column is good. I.E. - 2.5 is better than -1.3
Hope this is of interest to some people.

It will look like a bright star travelling across the sky.
And don't forget, there are people living in it.

    Ooooooooo!

Dang... just looked out my window and it is overcast

    Clear here...

I'm gonna get my big one out for this.

What would it actually look like? I guess I'd need a telescope.

    My lens by the way..

It passed very clearly here but even at 2000mm focal length it was still just a dot

Sorry, I just updated my post.
Forgot to put the bleeding obvious in.
    You won't need a telescope.

Well in cloudy Harlow I saw it for 10 seconds.
But I have done this many times before.
If you go to the heavens above web site, you can put your own town in there to get your own timings.
I haven't checked this, but I should imagine there wouldn't be more than 20 seconds between different parts of the U.K.
There are also a whole host of other satelites and stuff to see and this site gives you all the timings.

Any of you remember the Halle Bop comet about 10 years ago? Was visible for days, beautiful sight, makes you wonder what's really out there.

i was looking up at the skys a while back for like 5 hours, cant remember what it was for but saw alot of comets or simialr ? or it might have been comet trail.

    Thanks for the rep left.
Only 1 person signed it ( partially ) but I know who you are and yes you should see it from anywhere in the U.K. at that time give or take 20 seconds I reckon.
Link to site above. Should work. Check it out loads of cool stuff and although I didn't highlight it, a repeat performance tomorrow night.

Don't forget, if you go to the site, you will need to specify your location for it to work properly.

I was out on Sunday night, had a little too much vodka and about 10:30ish I was telling people there was a shooting star but by time they looked round it was gone and they were taking the proverbial...

Do you reckon this was what I'd seen? Maybe it went behind a cloud as i'd told them to look... or was it just too much vodka?

A shooting star is way fast.
They tend to be visible for only about 3 seconds max.
At 10:30 ish the ISS was not over the U.K. so it wasn't that.
Envisat ( another satelite ) was visible for about 11 minute at 10:08 - 10:20.
It was probably that that you saw. Would have been travelling at right angles to the ISS.

    Cool.

it was well deserved rep it looked well smart and bright
