Selling a car prices- help needed

    Hiya,
I need a website to tell me the price of a car back in 2005 and the price of car today.

    Story-
in 2005 my son was born and we bought my nan's car off her for £1,000, it's in my name so when my mom was in terrible debt problems I said to my nan we'd sell that car. My nan said no as it was "Bonnie's car". (She had a dog called Bonnie, and it was her car, and her dog hairs was still in there so it was sentimental....yeah ok.) Anyway, she's had an eye operation recently and she wants to sell the car. It cost her £2,500 to have her one eye done privately (remove cataract and put in a new lens) and will cost a further £2,500. She has £10,000 in a high interest account and has to have that in there or she won't get the interest. She has a credit card she could use, but she won't.
Anyway, she said she's going to sell the car for about £2,800 but I won't be getting back my full £1,000. I wouldn't mind if my mom had driven far in it etc, but she's done about 2,500 miles since it was "bought" from her, and as far as I can see the prices haven't really moved since we originally "bought" it.

    The car details are-
    Bought Nov 2005
    Want to sell ASAP.
nissan almera twister 1.5cc with 45000 miles on the clock and its an 02 plate. Also it's green so it's not a favourable colour

To be honest I'd say mint/turqoise. it's not a dark green, it's a dodgy one, we hate it lol.

I think it's got full service history- they used to go back to the place where they bought it from (the proper dealer place like Ford or summat-not up on cars- not like a dodgy 2nd hand place)

Also, is the £2,600 the price for now? If so, do you know how much it would have been in 2005??

    Original Price £11,100
    Franchised Dealer £2,155
    Independent Dealer £1,960
    Private Good £1,685
    Private Poor £1,145
    Part Exchange £1,375

This is Parkers price for the 02 Almera 4 door saloon (not too sure if that's what you have)

Would imagine 2005 would have been somewhere between double and treble those values.

Yeah it's a 4door. My mom found loads selling between £2,100 for loads of miles and in not too good condition, and similar to theirs was selling for £2,900. I think she said it was in the auto-trader??

This one sounds more like my mom's car, with the built in cd player (it's part of the dashboard) etc, I think it's had less than 3 owners, and has done less miles.

Ok then thank you. What do you think about the £1,000 thingy with my nan? I know it sounds stupid but I basically bought it off her for £1,000 but now she's selling it and giving me a little bit of money back.

is it four door or five door ? Basically a hatchback like the pic is a five door and note parker mileage estimate is generally different to what you may have

A 4 door basically doesn't have, well a door on the back that leads to the seats i.e the flap has a window whereas 4 door doesn't and is generally a saloon.

It sounds like you'll have to cut your losses this time. It's not worth spoiling a relationship over money.
Personally I always steer clear of family sales for this very reason. People think because you are family they can take a little liberty.
It sounds like your nan is a bit hard up, so she might see you right in the future when things get better.

Shes got 10k sat in an account but shes gonna take the car back off you to sell AND not get your 1k back???? Bang out of order imo!!! If you bought the car its yours, family or not it was a deal!

if you bought it and its in your name is it not your car no. what ever you paid

Yeah exactly, it was basically renting me a car in my nan's eyes. She has got the 10k sat in the account, she's got even more stashed in other accounts but she won't break into them as they're to live on when she retires. She lives in a 3 bedroomed house which also has a "granny flat" over a garage, this would be 2 bedrooms on top of it cos of the side or a bedroom with a large ensuite. There's only the 2 of them living there, they have a caravan in wales which they hardly visit- more money that she's losing having to pay the ground rent etc. She's not stupid, she's not losing it in her old age, she's just extremely selfish. I'm really fed up of it.:x

This is all really strange as previously said if the car was sold to you she cannot then expect tosell it to someone else. You would have to sign the log book over etc. I would offer to sell her the car back for the £1000 you paid for it as it is obviously still worth more than that, then she can do what she likes with it. Otherwise she really needs to look for something that she actually owns to sell. Why did she have to pay for her op was she not entitled to NHS treatment? Where I live the cataract treatment is really fast.

It may seem selfish to you, but ask yourself what her income will be when she retires.
Average state pension is £9.70 per week. Most of us probably spend that in a day.
That 10k isn't going to last a year, and she could have another 30 years ahead of her.
I wouldn't want to be in that situation.

She's still working, she has a pension from my grandad's work place as well as her pension at the moment and his government one. She goes to M&S and spends ridiculous money on clothes she doesn't wear, and then when it's my money she expects me to go without. That's why I'm calling her selfish.

When your nan "sold" the car, did she inform the DVLA? If she didn't she has commited an offence and if she did inform them then its legally not her car and she can't sell it to anyone.

To be honest, it sounds like your Nan is living in laa-laa land and you should tell her straight that shes taking the pee.

Yeah we told the DVLA it's in my name now, and has been for ages. I asked her how much I would get from the sale. She wants to sell it for £2,500 and she said I can have £500 out of it. Ohhh lucky me!!! She started getting really nasty when I said so I've basically rented the car. We had to scrub it clean today as it's still got dog hairs in it from her stupid dog. I normally love dogs- but this one used to bite us and my nan said they were "love bites". She's stupid.

No we haven't, oh sorry we have- we were born. She is a control freak and she loves hanging it over us. She is control of all of my savings and it really makes me angry. She says I'll waste it otherwise, wasting it means like spending it on my house.. :x

oh poor you, what a situation to be in,try telling her if she wants to sell the car its legally yours if your names on the paperwork so therefore if sold she owes you the £1000

Definately stand firm for the £1000, it's your car, I'd be tempted to tell her to razz off

    Original Poster

I'm going to try it again and risk a family argument. Like I said, I don't mind her having the £1,500 left over, I just want my £1,000 back. If I wanted to I could sell it for £2,500 and pocket the lot and she'd have nothing!! I don't think I'm being unfair.
