Selling eBay internationally...

I have a couple of items I want to list tonight and I am tempted and put off by listing postage available to European Union countries as well.

Sure it adds, so ebay discussion posts claim, 25% audience to an auction.
But the massively added postage cost, nearly triple that to UK for these smallish packets (Airmail for it to arrive within a week and Int. Signed For, for the compensation, security and tracking facility) would just put Europeans off, wouldn't it?

But my main confusion and gripe is Customs, what to declare, what to tell potential customers their import tax will be, value, contents, do you trust postage companies abroad to know what the contents are etc?

Advice welcome.

I normally put that its a gift, and don't put a receipt in the box, then it should go through with no tax
