Selling eBay item to abroad, good idea?

I'm selling a phone on eBay and someone wants me to send it to them abroad to greece and they have over 200+ feedback. What are the risks in posting abroad? Is it a good idea? Yes I know about not sending to Nigeria!

No don't send it as you lose tracking once it leaves the UK.
Only way you will send it is if the buyer pays you by BT (bank transfer).

I only sell to uk sellers... more so if it was a phone

Is the seller payng over the odd's for it ?

So if the buyer pays me through bank transfer then I'm safe from scams right? What if they use a credit card and use the chargeback thing?

For the extra security and to reduce a difficult chase up in case anything goes wrong Id advise only shipping to the UK.

Yeah I think I'll just post to UK only then. I also realised that if there's a fault with the phone within the Paypal protection time period the buyer is going to have to send the pone back and the shipping cost etc so it could get real messy.

could you not use a courier like ems as they have tracking from china to here?

Under no circumstances sell to Italy. If you check many power sellers take this precaution.

not if you use a courier
Western Union is safer than bank transfer, bank transfers can get recalled (unlikely to happen but can be done)

    Don't do it.
If you are asking on here you must know deep down it's not a good idea. Your gut feeling is very much correct, sell to someone in the UK to minimise problems.
When you sell it make sure you keep a photograph of the serial numbers and IMEI number and, if used, the condition inside and out just incase someone tries to swap them for a broken one. This is unlikely to happen but a good habit to get into just in case.

I have had a Bank transfer recalled through a chargeback for something I sold on here. The buyer had originally paid by Paypal Gift, funded by bank transfer. Most people on here will say this is impossible but it's not, it does happen occasionally. Turns out it was a mistake by the buyer's bank, but it can happen.
I would ask for payment by paypal and then you have their 'seller protection'. Plus it's easy and buyers like it.

sold a phone to portugal once...no probs. paid via paypal so protected.

+1 on the no overseas campaign, it'll end in tears. Sold some thing to an ebayer 500+ 100% fb, made claim for non receipt 4 weeks later the toe rag had it up for sale, Paypal and eBay were useless about it.

i take it you didnt use a trackable courier and went for the cheap postal option.

    serves you right.

greece is fine to send to if you use a reliable courier service.....and ask your buyer to pay for it

Royal mail Special delivery don't track in some Country's & they are more expensive ?

Well thank you for your comment you tool. I always use a trackable service, however, as pointed out some countries you can't track the items all the way to the door or if you can you certainly can't rely on the 2 bit foreign delivery persons to obtain a signature, plus in some instances higher priced delivery services just outweigh the cost. OP just wait for UK buyer.

Royal mail like most Couriers don't cover Gold.

Sold loads overseas and only one hasn't turned up, never tracked any of it as it was fairly low value stuff around £20. I think it increases sales if you are willing to post abroad as there are gaps in markets where they just cannot but that stuff.

Saying that from what I have heard / read mobiles would be the last thing I'd post abroad.

    where did he say gold?

I sell loads overseas, although TBF its mainly low cost items. When I get a customer buying a lot I use courier and it costs about £20, which the customer pays - doesn't bother me sending abroad, even to italy

He maybe never said Gold, but was just pointing out that royal mail don't cover you once it leaves the Country & so it's not worth the hassle.
Also your taken a massive gamble posting to Italy.

Not 100% sure why,but doing a google check will give you reasons why not to post to Italy.
I believe they don't scan anything once it arrives in Italy & so how can you prove the buyer has received the item.

yeah well as long as its covered then if you have to refud through paypal then you get a refund from royal mail. Obviously if you use a service that doesn't cover what you are sending you are taking a great risk.

As I say, almost all my sales are under a tenner, so sending anywhere doesn't really bother me. If it wasn't for international bidders my sales in total would be about 30% lower, so even if I lose the odd one and for some reason RM don't payout I'm till much better off.

Italy is dodgy cos the postal service over there is horrendous. Anything I send there over about £50 goes courier, the buyer gets the choice either pay the £20 postage, don't buy it or pay by western union. Usually they pay the £20 as what I sell is cheap ayway.

    Scammers heaven, don't do it

thanks for showing your ignorance on a number of levels.

i said a trackable courier service(ups/dhl/etc) not the cheap postal option (airsure/international signed for)which in many countries is not followed through........... a courier service will get a signature regardless.
