Selling on Ebay

    Hi Guys..

Recently sold an item on Ebay. Sent it recorded delivery and got an email from the buyer yesterday saying she hasnt got it. Checked with Track and Trace and it states that its being returned to sender and 'This is either because the item wasnt picked up by the recipient, or because we couldn't deliver it. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please allow for at least two days before tracking the return of your item'

I gave that info to the buyer and we're both unsure on how to proceed with this.. I didnt put a return address on this either ..

Any ideas on what happens now?

    Thanks

You could ask the buyer to phone their local depot and ask if it's there, or you find out the phone number and do it yourself - I would do this ASAP to try and catch the parcel before it leaves.

You have made a huge error in not putting your return address - I thought you have to do this for recorded delivery?

You can't blame the buyer as Royal Mail may not have left a card, they've done it to me (unless buyer has admitted getting the card)

If you have the reference number, you can go to www.royalmail.com/redelivery and try and arrange a redelivery - just try and catch the parcel before it leaves the depot, if it hasn't already

    hope this helps

i thought you automatically put senders address on when posting it?

No because the Post Office does it on their computer now - they stick the sticker, scan the parcel and input the delivery address into their system - so you have to do the return address yourself

Its not compulsory to put a return address on recorded delivery items. In fact some choose not to for various reasons. One reason being that they do not want the recipient to be able to see who the letter is from, thereby giving them the chance to refuse delivery.

Tough one, maybe they never got a card from the postman it happens allot

Would i just refund the buyer then. I rang Royal Mail and was on hold for ages before i gave up. Basically ive made a loss on this then? or can i claim from royal mail

I think you might have to

If you can't get through on the phone, go to your local depot.

A few times I've sent recorded delivery and the card has been bent up in the letterbox, or stuck behind a net. Make sure they check for that at the buyers house.
