Sending eBay item to Greece (Int'n Signed For Enough to protect myself?)

Found 19th Nov 2009
I have been contacted to end an £80 item early and the buyer seems to be in a rush. He lives in Greece so I'm wondering if I send the item by International Signed For, is that enough to protect myself if the buyer turns out to be a scammer?

No
If he's paying by PayPal then your item is never safe as they can put in a chargeback claim up to 45 days after paying.
and PayPal always sides with the buyer (unless you can use their own terms against them and make them side with you) but that is hard.

Up to you really, do you trust this buyer? I have had no problems from most countries, the only one I did was actually Canada.

I just checked his account, he have not bid on anything else in the last 90 days. He has about 50 100% feedbacks but the last feedback was in March 2009.

I don't mind selling to him since even if I don't end it now for him, I still allow international bidders to bid on my items. I'm just wondering if I send the item by International Signed For, would it be enough to protect myself if he turns out to be a scam.

So long as you get proof of postage and is signed for by the person in Greece, i don't see why not.

it can also depend on the item in question.

If it's a specialised item it will probably be a genuine bid. On the other hand if it is something like a phone or another high value electrical item, i would stay clear.

thats just wrong. If you can provide proof of delivery, then paypal will decide in your favour.

But the main problem is: There is no way of sending something that is provable using Royal Mail. Airsure does not require a signature so its no good. International Signed For they only track it within UK but they do request a signature at the destination although it might be very tough to get a hold of that if a problem arises. Unless the destination is USA, then probably its safer to say there will be no signature to proof.

But anyways, thanks for all your comments. I have decided to end it early and sell to the buyer. A rebel in me wants to fight ebay/paypal if they try to chargeback on me hahaha

You obviously have not had much dealings with PayPal

They ALWAYS side with the buyer unless you can prove they broke their own user agreement.

I sold several items that the buyer signed for and then said it wasnt delivered, when I posted on the paypal site proof it was received, the buyer then changed the claim to say it wasn't as described, yet it was brand new in the box and still PayPal gave them their money back, and the item never got back to me.
Always avoid PayPal where possible

Are you mad just dont do it please.

LOL I really do feel its a scam now that I've ended the auction. He said his prepaid credit card has expired so he can't send the funds to me until tomorrow morning after he visits the bank. Now my question is, does paypal clear the funds sent from prepaid credit card immediately or does it take a long time?

Make him pay paypal gift saying that's the only way you can do the deal.

Oh sry I missed this post early. When you said its not trackable in Greece, did you read it from the royalmail website because I can't seem to access the page you are referring to.

I got caught out from a buyer(thieving T**T) from India. He won my phone on EBAY and then 10 days after receiving the phone raised a chargeback. Despite me proving that he had done this to 5 other sellers over 2 weeks paypal(thieving C****S) still sided with him and took the money he had paid me off my credit card. Royal mail wouldnt reinburse me because they said india wasn't covered although there was no mention of this when i posted it at my local post office.
So if i was you i would avoid at all costs.

Thiefs! Did you send the parckage by normal mail, International Signed For, or Airsure?

have you sent my £1000 yet.........................

no international signed for wont be enough as its not trackable and half the time they dont get the person the other end to sign for it

Thanks - I knew she was talking complete nonsense. No-one would ever use paypal if any truth in what she said.

Why do you think it is a scam just because he lives in Greece? No more or less likely than anywhere else in the world

Never ever send Abroad.

Why bother

buyer in greece

rushing you to end item

no feedback since 2009

seems legit

Original Poster

To end the mystery, I did send the item. The buyer was legit. Goes to show how selling internationally can be beneficial for both parties. The buyer said its one of the best deal he got on eBay and I wouldn't have gotten this price if I chose to ship within the UK only.

Everyone loves a happy ending. This is possibly the most pointless thread resurrection ever though

lol

saying that i know what ya mean

i created a thread about buyng some items off a guy on gumtree, the lot was £80 but was worth a lot more had it been on ebay

ended up doing 2 transactions via gumtree for 2 sales and no probelms via paypal

The flamedeer comp has finished now. Bye.

wouldn't send to Greece now, they need all the money they can get

UK only bro

hello there,
Avoid shipping to Greece at any cost, I've lost an item worth 250 USD including handling and shipping cost, time while trading on ebay, at this point ebay was quite useless, so my suggestion don't ship to Greece.
The person who scammed me is: Ioannis Nikolopoulos Floka Olympia 27065 Greece
