my sons mate (15 ) got stabbed in the face the other night by a gang from a neighbouring town

we dont ever normally have agro like that it my village but

be carefull if your teens are going out on halloween cos

theres talk of carrying real knives and getting away with stuff cos they are masked ect

not my son and his mates i have to add .. they are having a small private party here at my home .. i dont want them out and in possible danger

but its something to think about .... crimes and asaults cos they are wearing a mask ????????

Easy answer........have a mask amnesty with bins & a police office in every street to place them in ;-) OR have a teenager amnesty with steel cages to put them all in

i hate halloween. i dont like trick or trating myself but I hate other people coming round begging for sweets!

last time I went trick or treating was when I was 10.

Sad news about that lad.

Jeez nicki, hope your sons mate is ok.

Luckily we always have big family parties so I know my nephews/nieces will be safe.

God what is happening to the world? why do people feel the need to go out and do someone in this way?

Not at all. This sort of thing makes people think it is local to them, a regular occurance and knife crime is everywhere. Look, if you like living in fear, hearing terrible stories like this then fine. I prefer to keep on a rational head and ignore things that are designed purely to to scare people...

You might as well be putting up a huge sign that says 'RANDOM STABBINGS AHEAD' - it's meaningless and unhelpful.

Bad things happen and I'm sorry her son's mate was injured (if he wasn't the cause) We have no facts and this is an isolated incident - I don't come on here reporting everytime I see a fight outside a pub...

What exaclt am I supposed to do with this information? Be ready to prevent myself being stabbed at all times? Treating everyone (particularly kids) as dangerous? Stay inside?

What are you going to do with this information?

Its not scaremongering - it happens all the time unfortunately and the only way to prevent it is for parents to take responsibility for where their teens are and make sure they know right from wrong rather than be happy they are out of the way and the police to be allowed to do their job properly and proper punishments in place for people who carry never mind use knifes. Its not rocket science but the government seem to be lacking the balls to take a tougher stance on this.

It is local to everyone - I live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere and have lost two friends through stabbings.

Whilst you have to get on with your everyday life the fact is this is a very big threat. I have two young boys and I have already drummed into them how wrong it is to use a weapon, I will make sure they continue to understand this as they become young men. They both also know how to defend/act in the event of being attacked by someone with a knife - sad but its a sign of the times.

I will do all I can to protect them and ensure they are not responsible for taking the life of another in such a way.

he will be ok although he has stiches and will be permanantly scarred ... i wasnt trying to scare monger i just wanted parents to be made awear of the thoughts thats might be going around some teens heads this halloween ... i would never forgive myself if someones kid got stabbed this halloween and id not said anything

This gets me so frustrated.

What about all the dangers in your house? Why don't people assume the best in others anymore? Why are you happy to assume that other kids they meet will all be keen to stab people in the face?

well im glad it was posted as it is local to me, so if it helps me be aware of what might be going on then im grateful

he was not the aggressor he was sat waiting for a train and 20 youths got off from the next town and attacked him and his mate thinking they were part of a rival gang

i wud just pop out of this thread if i were u giles, u dont seem to b in a good mood and u dont want to say something silly which could lead to a suspension. But bad things happen. You can't prevent it by locking your kids in the house. You can't prevent it by telling your kids (you'll probably just give them a complex to be honest). You can't prevent it by getting knives off the street, body armour...

Your kids aren't even safer in the house.

Things like this reinforce the idea that danger is everywhere (currently in the form of knife crime) and it simply isn't true - whatever people believe to be the truth.

You got kids gileswendes?

I'm letting people know why I think this post is appauling. You don't think there is anything wrong with it and I do - we have a difference of opinion and luckily live in a country where we are free to discuss WHY.

Your suggestions are interesting. Vigilance means LOOKING for danger - youi can't really do that without assuming the worst in everything you look at. Being aware of your surroundings means the same as vigilance.

Of course parents should go trick or treating with younger kids. If you've decided that based on the fact that someone's kid's friend got stabbed I would be forced to question your ability to parent in the first place! Not that I do or would - it's an example!

I remember bein out on a drivin lesson on halloween once and the chavs were out with their halloween masks on causin anarchy.... bashin cars, runnin out into the road to try and freak me out, I would have been willing to run them over personally but my instructor wouldn't let me. pah!

With all due respect none of us were there at the time. She only has the information secondhand and I'm guessing that her son would not be happy to tell her that his friend is dangerous himself or has dangerous friends. I'm happy to believe that this isn't the case but we don't know.

fireheaven

Why is it, are you saying knife crime is not a problem in this country?

I'm saying that it's not something you can prevent by being vigilant or aware. It is the tip of a much bigger problem (socio-economic factors etc) I don't like to live my life assuming that everyone is out to get me and I don't like things (like this) that tell people that is the case or reinforce that idea.

Not everyone fears prison - for some people 'home' is much worse. Think about it.

I'm swaying towards agreeing with Giles on this one.

The media chooses what to make people afraid of. As soon as they become used to the "problem" they create a new one.

not up for any type of debate on this forum tbh lol, ur correct about u being allowed to have ur own opinion tho, we will agree to disagree, im just suprised u feel this way about this thread, after seeing many of ur other posts around the forum id say this was quite out of character of u.

peace homie

this type of thing has always been around, think back to the razor gangs in glasgow and loads pf examples of tribal/gang violence in the past.

Not wanting to belittle or underplay individual cases as one attack is an attck too many but there has to be a sense of perspective here.

Your kids will go out and 99.9999999999999% of them will have a great halloween and you'll all have great memories of dressing the kids up etc so don't let that tiny tiny minority spoil your kids halloween by sitting in at the back of the house with the doors locked, windows balckened shaking with fear because they may get stabbed. Theres probably more chance that they'll hurt themselves in the kitchen than being stabbed by an osama mask wearing thug.

I'm sorry I think I have to agree with Giles main point here. I don't feel quite as strongly perhaps, but do see his point.
