Right seriously thinking of ditching my TV provider & get one of these set top boxes, open box, zgemma or gigablue! Can anyone give us some advice please, which models to go for & how easy are they to buy, how easy to set up & are they really worth it? Many thanks.

Hi, I decided to ditch Virgin for the television and got myself a Humax HDR box as I already had a dish and the cables. Kept the landline and Broadband with Virgin though. Invested in some pass through plugs as I prefer things to be hard wired rather than wireless. Also picked up an Amazon Fire box (again, it's hardwired through the plugs), side loaded Kodi onto it and never looked backed. Everything is straight forward to set up, plenty of tutorials for Kodi on the internet. Went from paying £95 per month to £18.50 (including the recent increase) for 100mb broadband and an evening package on the phone (paid the line rental upfront).

Already got fire stick looking 4 something a bit more stable

I have both Freeview and Freesat built into TV. work well and at zero monthly apart from a TV license which you still need. I would not do without these.
Set top boxes include hacked AppleTV2, NowTV. FireTV, WD and an intelligent Blue Ray Player.

Most used though is my Google Chromecast.

I have Amazon Prime and subscriptions to Netflix and NowTV.

Mine above were easy to setup, I have tried Kodi on a number of boxes and find it hard work. Not conducive to just switching something in and watching. However I may just be me getting old.
interestingly it is illegal to produce or sell boxes that allow free access to subscription content but currently not illegal to use. This may of course change for the worse!

I had an openbox just upgraded to zgemma which is definitely worth paying the extra for. The openbox is very cheap and basic. Zgemma is worth every penny. Pm me if you need any more info regarding purchasing a line etc

Give that a go think it should've sorted it!

I have a zgemma h5 using Virgin. One thing to bare in mind, if you want to record one channel and watch another, you need a better box unless you use a loop cable and your provider my charge extra for 2 lines. What I have done though, as I have a sub for iptv (full HD), use my zgemma to record and have added my iptv into my epg and use that to watch another channel (using the Internet).

Also satellite version you don't get sly channels in HD

All very easy to setup using ipab.tv or wooshbuild

I have been looking at a zgemma h2s. I have been looking at subs and really unsure of where to go as I would like a full package yet reviews seem to be vague ... and understandably so. can anyone point me in a direction?

Register on the techkings forum and post a request. I got one from there sometime back, I pay
£30 for 12 Months
£16 for 6 Months
£9 for 3 Months
£4 for 1 Month

Never had a problem with the line, he allows 3 boxes on these subs. So a dual tuner and a single or 3 single tuners.
