Setting up mail on 5800. Help - it is downloading thousands of mails

Hi,
Decided to try and set up email retrieval on my phone so that I dont have to manually go in and look. However, my phone has now gone ballistic and downloaded over 1500 emails so far and I had to kill my connection. Now my phone is slower than a C64. I had to turn it off and back on in the end.
Can anybody advise on how I can stop this? I only wanted notification of new mails. Dont want to delete it all then find it deletes out my hotmail too

I set it up for retrieval every 2 hours. Hopefully this will not annoy CPW / o2 (am on pay monthly with free internet).

go into email setting/retrieval settings/retrieval amount and then set the number to how many you want.

I just went to that location to change it and found it was already set at 50

hmm it should only be downloading 50 then, go to automatic retrieval (underneath retrieval settings) and disable email notifications and email retrieval but that will only stop them being automatically downloaded.

I'll have a play about with mine and see if theres anything else.

Thanks. I did do a bit of reading before I tried so that I didnt cause myself problems
I have just tried to delete a load (thankfully it gave me the option of phone as well as phone and server) but even then it says that it doesnt delete the email header. What is all taht about?

Jeez, I thought it would be simple.
