Im fed up getting home now with items to see they are out of date. I shouldnt have to check every item i pick up should i? its a co-op store and i want to complain but who do i complain to?
No point complaining in store, they are obviously not taking any notice.

Who can i tell that will get back to them and rattle their cage?

Don't they stock rotate ever?

Write to their head office... will make them aware of the situation and you might get vouchers or something out of it

its a tiny shop, it really cant be difficult to check, especially as they have sheets telling them what to check

happens all the time at asda i check everything i buy as most stuff is going out of date the day your shopping or the next day no good if your trying to do a WEEKLY shop on a budget i complained to asda and they gave me £20 gift voucher next time i went was the same story ......................

when i worked in Mand S food I was told it was 1k fine every time an item was found. - don't know if this is true.

i think they can be in big trouble for it.

You need to report it to Environmental Health - not Trading Standards - because selling food that's out of date is a breach of the Food Safety Act 1990.

There is however an important distinction between selling foods beyond their best before and use by dates. It is not an offence to sell foods beyond their best before dates.

your partner works in the shop?

ok, most recent was salad dressing (3 days past best before) wasnt marked or reduced, and today it was colesalw, 1 day past use by date. obviously should have been removed from sale completely.
Thanks, i'll look to contacting environmental health

She does, part time. That is how i know the sheets showing what needs to be checked on dated items has been marked as done......when clearly it hasnt been done.

Just another wee heads up shane - the only way anyone will come down on them is if they have a record of consecutive breaches of the Law in this case, so that they can build up a case against them. No one from my 7-8 years experience in the job has taken a case against a trader selling a single item beyond the use by date - they would get a written warning.

The salad cream is not a breach strictly speaking, but you've been sold it at full price, where they should have reduced the item concerned.

the dressing yes was not so bad, but the colesalw is different. and this is only from this week, its happened before, and if you were to see the meat they sell....its often dark brown rather than red.
I have sent a complaint to the dept at our local council.......funnily, the council HQ, the shop in question and my house are all within a couple streets of each other. as in, i can walk to the council in 2 mins....then 2 mins later im at the shop lol.
Should be interesting.

Sounds like their fridges are not working right either mate - get it reported!

If your girl works there, tell her to check the fridge temps - it's either that or they're keeping the meat outwith the cool zone for extended periods.

Let me know what they say/do.

well is been reported, ive seen the devices in the fridges to check the temps, they never on tho when i walk past. And the meat sits usually on the bottom shelf and near the front. im never convinced it can be chilled properly there.

update.

Inspectors went into the store today and found out of date sausages on the shelf, and went to purchase them. I believe no one stopped them from making the purchase, so i guess thats gonna bring some sort of trouble on them.
Which is only fair. I wonder if it was only my complaint that sparked this, or if there have been others
