    Should Bercow stand down?

    He said

"Donald Trump is a racist, sexist leader and should be barred from addressing the House of Commons."

His arrogance is breathtaking. He has exceeded his authority in every possible way. He did not even discuss his outrageous comments with the two other office holders who have a role in inviting foreign leaders to speak in Parliament. It is clear that his motivation is to embarrass the Government and, as we have repeatedly seen, draw attention to himself. It is time that those on the Government benches make clear that they have no confidence in him and invite him to consider his position.

He probably overstepped the mark, but good on him!

    Should Bercow stand down?: Yes.

Definitely overstepped the mark regarding his appointed role. But he is standing up for what he believes which is admirable. Plus, what he said is true lol

    He's my favourite Tory :-)

Nope. He's absolutely right and the fact is we should hold America to a higher standard when electing their leaders.

What Trump is doing regarding the courts, the media and his own people is scandalous.

The fact that Theresa the Appeaser is literally holding the man's hand is a national embarrassment.

It's not his place or job to speak out like that, he doesn't speak for me and he should not be using his office as a platform for his personal opinions.

The Man is a buffoon who is full of his own importance time he went. And Donald Trump is doing what he said he would do and that is why he was voted in.

Why do you even waste a second of your life on politics? I'm intrigued.

Yes he has allowed "worse" leaders to speak there than Trump. Just joined the anti trump bandwagon.

Embarrass the government? I think he has saved the government's backside from inviting Trump, he is not the most popular person right now but i guess u like the man otherwise you wouldn't make this post.

Lets say, Hilter & Stalin, would you want any of them to speak in front of Paliment?

He may be standing up for what he belives in but in doing so he has abused his position and therefore should stand down.

I agree with you that everyone has a right to express their views but maybe forgot the threat it had on his position of speaking the truth in front of a biased government and embarrassing his colleagues

As speaker he is neutral in these matters, and should not stand down but be sacked and removed from office.

the guy is an attention seeking hypocrite

He should keep his opinions to himself.
Pretty much like a lot of people who think the rest of the world wants to hear them.

He's so right and I think it's fantastic what he said,

yes i agree with you on those points, we are hypocrite when it benefits us = ) but i guess thats the way of the world since as humans we are shelfish.

Stand down? I'd sooner have him make an official apology in the house

And if that apology is acceptable then he may continue if not then he must stand down.

Nothing like seeing someone grovel for their job and career/position

Yet more wailing from the 'liberal elite' who cannot comprehend that ordinary people can have different views from theirs and will seek to spite others. UK voted for Brexit, USA for Trump. You might not like it but it happened. Acting like sore losers all the time wins no friends and is becoming seemingly childish. Get over it, engage and make the best of it.

He should go but not for saying the above, what he's said there is just the TRUTH.

He should go because he's continually biased towards the Tories whom he lets continue cat calling & jeering whilst other parties speak.

    Who cares?

I'd rather not have a load of yes men running around.

whether you agree with him or not is irrelevant, he is supposed to be neutral.
anyone else who cannot fulfill their job is sacked, get rid the sooner the better.

if instead he had recommended Trump to speak in Parliament then there would have been the usual crew marching and protesting about being unbiased in his role, they won't march now because they don't care about democracy just their own agenda .

his role is meant to be unbiased, it maybe that you are confused about his role in Parliament.

This is a bit of media fluff that will come and go within 48 hours, and will ultimately have very little impact on what Trump does, and doesn't do, on his State visit. Bercow is a real enigma though. I remember him on the backbenches, making long, but such beautifully crafted speeches. He displays wonderful conviction in his areas of interest, and nearly always put people on his own and opposition benches to shame with his almost peerless debating skills. On the other hand, he is clearly despised by a lot of the colleagues who know him best. A man who makes so many enemies, so easily, is likely to mean he displays a particularly unattractive character behind the scenes. One of the great Parliamentary perfomers, but I would not like to estimate how odious he is capable of being. The least said about his choice of wife, and mother of his children, the better.

On a separate note, one of the stories regarding his sensitivity about his relative lack of height remains quite amusing. Circa 2010, Junior Health minister Simon Burns’s driver reversed into the Speaker’s car in a Parliament courtyard. Apparently, Mr Bercow appeared and told Mr Burns: “I’m not happy!” To which Mr Burns replied: “Well, which one are you?”

You might have expected the Prime Minister to say something.

But, there again, the PM is Mrs Maybe, the woman who you think is going to give us a hard brexit.

Maybe he shouldn't have said it maybe he should

I'd like to think he would treat anyone else in the same position the same.
If he was just treating Trump this way but letting others with a similar background/history do what he's stopped Trump from doing I would say that he was biased.

People like me were making the best of it before Brexit, hence why we didn't need to vote for 'change' that won't happen. At least you can see the similarities between Trump and Brexit, where one 'elite' sells the lies that they'll bring jobs back to the desperate, low-skilled workers whilst painting their opposition as the 'liberal elite'. It's pathetic how gullible some people are.

Trump goes further in being a misogynist who seems to be willing to undermine the very constitution he claims to want to protect. As Bercow said, addressing Parliament isn't a right and he's well within his rights to object to Trump.

    Yes, he should resign.

I don't particularly like the man, but I like Trump even less. So I guess there's your answer.

He had every right to say that as one of the three keyholders of Westminster.

A bit hypocritical considering he allowed the President of China to address the Commons, however, at least he had the bottle to stand up and voice concerns unlike Theresa the Appeaser.

"I will challenge Trump when we disagree". Proceeds to hold his hand, and then refuse to voice her concerns hours after leaving Washington and Trump initiates the executive order that breaches the US Constitution. Hooray for US Checks and Balances.

There hasn't been a bigger coward in office since Neville Chamberlain.
