The 67-year-old, who later apologised to Wiley, could face a hefty fine or a touchline ban if he is found guilty.

The referees' union has called for Ferguson, who has until 3 November to answer the charge, to be banned.

    Hell no

I think he should maybe be given 1 match or at most 2

    Well said

    Of course he should.

Mascherano (as a player) was made an example of as part of the Respect campaign a couple of seasons ago, so why shouldn't Ferguson (as a manager).

Agreed, until they start hitting them all with hard punishment it will carry on. In other sports it doesn't happen because they know the consequences. Unfortunately in football this isn't the case. If you knew arguing with the ref resulted in a 3 game ban you wouldn't do it full stop.

This applies to all managers not just Ferguson.

I think he should be given a knighthood...Oh wait!

im a Utd fan so i would say no obv.

its been a witch hunt though the anti Utd/Fergie brigade have gone way ott...... perspective is required,is what Fergie said any worse than what Big Sam and Rafa have said before - like suggesting that refs have cheated and/or been biased? they were warned but not banned.

So is questioning a refs fitness that much worse than his integrity?

I may be slightly biased, because it's Ferguson, but, i think he should, it's not just this once either, there has been numerous incidents this year already, with Ferguson being n trouble after commenting about the ref. Bringing personal insults about fitness into it, makes it worse.

Funnily enough, that ref was the linesman than Ferguson was having a laugh with at the Man City game. Didn't think he was bad then did he?

Sunderland are having a hard time atm aren't they.

They draw at Old Trafford and it's all about the ref
They beat Liverpool and it's a beach balls fault.

Bet Bruce is wondering what he has to do to get some praise.

He needs to learn how to deflect the criticism away from his players when they play badly just like Ferguson and Benitez do.

Its no coincidence that in both those games United and Liverpool played below par (Sunderland played very well in both games also may I add), and nobody seems to be putting any pressure or giving out at the players for their performances. Thats one of the main reasons that Ferguson and Benitez have been around at the top of their profession for so long.

Ferguson is above the law, even speeding on the hard shoulder because he needs a **** can't get him in trouble

But everyone should really be talking about the fact that Liverpool are a very poor side when Torres and Gerrard are not in the team, but instead everyone is talking about a balloon.

It was the same when Sunderland played United. Everyone should have been talking about how poor United were on the day, but Fergusons comments deflected all the criticism away from his teams performance.

Yes. No team contact until the end of the season, me thinks.

I heard on the radio that continental mangers are banned from THE GROUND, not just the dugout on matchdays. This would make him think twice.

Whilst he had a point about Wiley, his berating of the 4th official was even worse. The guy is a total bully.

Mascherano was being a complete pratt when he got his Red against manure.

(I presume that's what you refer?) if it was, I spoke to Steve Bennett a couple of weeks later. His opinion was he did so to appease his manager and to deflect the fact he was playing poorly.

I don't understand why people involved in football, from the players, coaches and fans treat the referees with such a lack of respect.

Rugby has the right attitude to refs.

If football really believes in 'respect' then they need to come down heavy on this type of thing.

2 or 3 match touchline ban i would think will be the punishment.

Although i think it would pain him more to be made to make a full and unreserved apology and admit he was wrong.

I don't think Fergie hates Alan Wiley:?

He is supposed to be a professional referee and is paid well for it so how can he keep up with a fast tempo game carrying all the weight Fergie has a point in my opinion. And i meant the hate mob on here not Fergie hating Wiley.

But it was totally baseless - if it wasn't, why did Fergie apologise?

It was petulant and out of order.

Fergie is supposed to be a professional manner and is paid well for it - he should act in a professional manner.

I'd put money on the fact that Alan Wiley is a damn site fitter than most of us.

He passes all the tests. Fergie is just a bad loser and gets upset when he doesn't get his way.
