Should i be charged 50p for using my card at keystore?

I just went to my local keystore and purchased sum goods, when i went to the till he charged me 50p on top of the items i had purchased for using my card, is this allowed?

Never had it b4 so was just wondering as it seems quite odd!

Yes, because banks charge them if a payment made by card is under £5.

    How much was it for?

Should have used a free cash machine. Id rather spend £1 on fuel to nearest cash point if neccessary out of principle

in sum shops its a £10 not a £5 .... just ring your bank up they will tell you

I believe it's allowed as long as they warn you about it before taking your card.

I was offered cashback the other day in one of these convenience stores but they said it was a £1 charge to do so so I said no.
