Mother in law has said she wants a new pc that will last forever and be able to do photo editing with a £450 budget o_O:rolleyes:

Pricing components im looking at:

PSU 550w bronze 25

CPU i56500 £196

8gb ddr4 £42

SSD 120gb £35

HDD 1tb £42

Cheap soundcard £23

2gb GPU £25

= £433 without the mobo

I have also found this

GLADIATOR Intel Core i5 6500 Windows 10 - Aria PC

What should I do?

You don't need to waste money on a sound card though, unless there's a specific feature you need?

Not really I know she has an expensive stereo system she would like to connect to to and specified 'good sound' so i just added the cheapest sound card i could find..

It's probably not worth buying it with mate. Most motherboards come with decent sound capabilities and standard jacks.

Post the link to the previous built one as well so I can compare.

Dump the GPU too, at £25 it's almost certainly slower than integrated graphics.

You don't need more than a 200W PSU so go for the best quality you can find regardless of capacity.

Really? Is there some sort of benchmarking to know at what price I would be making gains on the GPU?

Wouldn't a bit of graphics memory help with the photo editing?

Also the aria one seems very good however moving windows from HDD to ssd will be a pain

The memory amount won't make any difference. I'm not sure how much the HD 530 can use but Intel's integrated graphics used to be 1.8GB. The extra bandwidth may do but cheap cards generally only offer 10-15GB/s on top of the 35GB/s+ system memory that DDR4 gives you so you'd have to be stressing the system memory too.

Photo editing isn't generally very GPU heavy, many applications that do it don't use the GPU at all and IIRC those that do are mostly for filters and similar. You'd have to look up benchmarks for the specific application and use to get a definitive answer.

Generally though, cheap cards are only for extra screen outputs on new computers.

Anything cheaper than a GTX 750ti/R7 360 is a couple of generations old now and even those two are two or three years old now. Generally for anything GPU heavy you're best off starting with an RX 460 or GTX 1050.

If you only need a small boost then the GDDR5 versions of the R7 240 or GT 730 are getting on for twice as fast, but at £60-70+ they're not terribly good value compared with a £100 card.

On a brand new computer you'd just do a fresh install.

I am still thinking the "gladiator" is a good price as I cant build it cheaper than it is..

Don't forget the OS, that's at least buying a cheap key, if not a full package
