Should i cancel my bt broadband and phone?

with the broadband prices going up again im not sure whether or not to stay or cancel. ive got till august left on my line rental and have just renewed the broadband last month to infinity 2 for £18.50 a month. so ive compared plustnet and bt and i just wanted peoples opinions on what i should do. here are the workings out:

Plusnet
£32.50 x 18 month = £585 - £85 casback = £500 / 18 = £27.77 or would be £25.77 if i paid the advance line rental

BT
£21 x 18 month = £378

line rental: £18.99 x 12 = £227.88 or £185 advance

£378 + £227.88 = £605.88 / 18 = £33.66
£378 + £185 = £563 / 18 = £31.27

Phone BT and use leaving as a ploy to get a decent deal, just done same with sky increases. Got another year free broadband, £40 credit and line rental as last year's for 18 months.

Sky, 12 months unlimited (non fibre) @ £18.99 a month for 12 months, 12 month contract. £10 set up fee.

228+10/12= 3 £19.80 a month plus potential £70 topcashback

If your service is good, I wouldn't risk plusnet for a saving of £6 per month

Plus you won't get your line rental paid to August refunded,

Bt would only give me 7mb connection saying was max my line could take, I'm now getting 21mb, and touch wood 2 years not even a disconnect.

Try sse i got ultrafast fibre broadband mine averages about 35mbpm,i pay £21 a month that was the price 6 months ago and that includes line rental.

Hi there, I'm on the unlimited infinity package and rang up to cancel at the wkd as my line rental and fibre had gone up to £47 a month after a year's half price fibre. Got through to retentions, was offered £37 a month for the existing package (which I refused) so they came back with £27 a month, needless to say I bit their hand off lol. Good luck x

Try virgin. I'm getting 70mb unlimited broadband, unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles, 1000 international minutes for £26 p/month

did you have to pay the line rental 12 months in advance for that?

Nothing up front, exactly the same set up as I have now in that it's a 12 month contract and it's £27 a month instead of £47. They also extended the warranty on the hub for another 12 months too. Only BT provide fibre in my area, so I said I'd be happy to drop back down to bog standard broadband with sky for £18.50 a month (broadband and line rental) if they couldn't lower the price of fibre. Hope it works for you too.

Same here. Checked my offers and found BT had offered me Infinity 2 up to 80mbps (64mbps guaranteed) for £14.50 per month plus line rental (I pay the saver) if I agree to a new 18m contract. I called them and was able to negotiate a free Infinity Hub 6 if I went ahead (it has been years since they provided a new hub). I was even able to defer the new deal for a couple of months when my current Infinity 1 deal at £10p/m ends.

Fairly certain BT own PlusNet,

I thought about using them and asked a few questions, usual stuff but when i asked about if unlimited really was unlimited, they said it was subject to an acceptable usage policy of 100GB per month with some plans having less but still touted as unlimited.

Rang them again today and they wouldn't budge on the £21 plus line rental so I gave them my notice. Wasn't put through to any retentions team either

The retentions team are known as the customer options team, ask to be transferred.
However they would have to cancel your cancellation to see what offers they have, there's a dilema.

SSE use traffic management, so unless you literally just read emails on your PC I would avoid them, as they will slow down/limit anything you do that uses much data: Streaming videos, watching youtube, downloading game updates etc.

I tried phoning BT the other day and they only offered me a package for £37 for line rental + fibre. I said I had an offer from another ISP for £30 and they refused to budge.

they wouldnt budge for me coz ive still got till august on the line rental so they had nothing to offer. ive found a way around it now though. we are going to cancel out phone and broadband which is in my partners name and we are going to sign up as a new customer in my name. so hopefully ill get £80 top cash back + the £150 reward on bt infinity 1

You don't even have to change account holder name, just create a new account and take over your own line, BT have no restrictions like that, Virgin Media do, 6 months i think the break has to be for.

Hi Guys,
I wanted to give you all a new update as of 10/02/2017 about ceasing line rental saver due to price changes.
If you decide to leave because of the Price Changes (letting us know within 30 days of receiving your price change notification) you will receive a refund of the remaining months of your LRS payment on your final bill. This will be done automatically in the background.
Thanks DanielS
