Should I cook or chuck a frozen turkey crown dated end November 2014?

So, got a bargain turkey crown in January (this year!) dated end November 2014.

It was frozen when I bought it and it went straight into the freezer when I got home.

Now found it at the bottom of the freezer.

    Cook or chuck?

I am thinking.......what would an extra few weeks do when it had a date on it that could have been easily 16 months ahead.

    What would you do?

    Thanks!

    100% chuck.
    Not worth ruining xmas

Keep it. The margin the producers give on these things are silly. It will be fine.

    What would you do?

I would avoid having dinner at your house this christmas lol

I'm on the "cook it" side , let the voting begin..

How good is your freezer? Sometimes things get freezer 'burn' before the use by date. If it doesn't smell 'freezery', then I'd go for cooking it.

So, I also have a chicken and a gammon joint - bought fresh so obviously had a short date on it and they have been in the freezer for 9/10 months so are 9 months past their dates.....however I would not think twice about eating them so is it really any different with the turkey?

I would also say cook it, it will be fine.

How do I know if it has freezer burn? Does it look different to what it should when I look at it in the freezer?

Cook it! As long as it's stayed frozen you will be fine :-)

Kind of-it gets very icy and almost 'crystallized' and gets a funny freezer smell.

If you have to ask the question, then your conscience is telling you something. Be led by your gut, not to the loo because of it!
    Merry Christmas x

It's not worth the risk. Have you ever experienced food poisoning? Aaaaaargh!!!

i,d cook it and give it the boyfriend to eat first. if its no good i,d give it the dogs.

Cook! The freezer will have preserved it's freshness

    cook it, itll be fine.

thers a reason the date was Nov 2014..... it helps the supermarket with stock rotation, not that they wouldnt have sold out by then, but you get the idea.

you'll, have a good 2 - 3 years that it can be kept in the freezer before it very slowly starts to get a bit funny, but then its not rancid or gone off, it just slightly looses flavour.

    Cook it.

In situations like these, say to yourself..."what would Chuck Norris do"..?

cook it , make sure over 75c all way through , should be fine if kept in good working freezer.

is it 'use by' date or 'best before'? couple of extra weeks in freezer can't really do no harm. and defo won't get food poisoning for that reason. just cook it properly and eat.

Double negative...even the subconscious is pointing the way to enlightenment

If you've ever eaten in any kind of chain restaurant then you've eaten stuff much more past their use by dates than this!
Cook it. As others have said Cook it properly but this goes for in date fresh turkey too, the only way you'll get food poisoning is if it's undercooked or if it was already off before it was frozen. If it's off it'll smell off too.

    Throw it bloody Turkey
You will be sick of it in a few days anyway

Cook it! I've eaten meat that has been in my freezer for 2+ years and I haven't had a problem, apart from a little freezer burn.

    It's going to taste fowl....

The BB date would be based on it staying in the fridge and not in the freezer. Cook it, why waste food

Not when it was bought frozen.

But I agree, cook it. The dates on food are mostly just guides, but you can generally tell when something is no good by sight and/or smell. It's sad how people have become slaves to what is printed on the packaging and it is one of the reasons there is so much food wasted in this country.

As long as it has been constantly sealed and frozen it is basically in the same state, and safe to eat 100 years later. I have eaten stuff fron the freezer that is 2 years out of date and live to tell the tale.

    Just cook the damn thing!
