Am about to purchase a new PC mainly for gaming. My question is should I wait for Windows 7 or stick with vista?

There are 2 games that hubby wants to play, John Tiller and Empire Total War. I know they run on Vista my worry is that they won't on Windows 7 which the defeats the object of the PC

Any help would be appreciated..... rep will be added

Most new PCs will come with a free windows 7 upgrade now so when 7 is released you can decide if you want to keep vista or upgrade

I would wait, but any game that runs on vista should run on win7.

But i'll say whay i said to wait, when a new os is released the pc makers will have to make sure everysingle component has proper drivers and there are no compatibility problems, but if you buy now u'll still get a free upgrade option to win 7 but there might be a tiny chance of finding a incompatibility. And its only a month to wait.

I am sure ppl will disagree, but a system thats been built with win 7 on mind to run from start is less likely to have any issues than thats upgraded from vista.

Depends on your budget but DirectX 11 graphics cards are pretty much here now. So you might aswell wait for them to appear on the market before you purchases a new gaming PC.

In that case wait a short while and look for a system with a 5850 or 5870 Radeon (ATI) graphics card and Windows 7 is probably your best bet...

If its a games system the graphics card is probably the most important aspect and £1k should be just about enough to get a system with one of the above, a decent CPU (such as a Core 2 Quad, i5 or i7, or Phenom), plenty of HDD space and memory and a decent monitor...

with £1k then no problems at all for yourself with DX11 GPU.
Furthermore, ive found Win7RC plays more games then Vista so far...
I say go for Win7 then no problems.

For most OS'es I'd see your point - but 7 is so little different to Vista it'll run fine.

That or a 24" - try and find a full HD ready one (one with 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 resolution...). Some 22"s are this resolution but lots aren't...

cheers again

I highly recommend Windows 7. Been using the RC for a bit now - it's quicker than XP, slick, pretty and has a lot more to it than either XP or Vista. A lot more accessible and isn't a resource hog.

A hint: If you're experiencing slow internet speeds with Windows 7, change you Power Saving profile to "High Performance". Solved all my problems.
