Silly Android/ Mobile Phone Question, is it possible to not allow a phone to be silent/mute

Everytime I (or anyone else) calls my (teenage) son he never answers because his phone is always on silent. I don't call him much but when I do its a matter of urgency relating to picking him up after college or when our plans change etc. Kids dont seem to use phones as phones thesedays. I might buy a new phone for Christmas tbh but was wondering if there is a phone I could stop mute being activated or ring no matter what when I call.

(samsung galaxy ace i think, android and on giffgaff)

The function you want is on many android phones already. Phone callers can be set as a Priority caller which will bypass silent mode. Also apps that will do this to. Can't tell you if or how on a Samsung ace though. Newer Android has it under the contact options I think where you star them as a favourite contact. Then in sounds you have to allow priority callers when on silent. Can't remember from memory but you will get a better answer than mine here or look up on net.

I cannot find this on a Note 2 either.

use an app called macro droid to set ringer to loud everytime your specific number calls

I'm just glad I'm not the only parent who wants to strangle their child for this.

Or you could install something like AVG and set the alarm off when you want him to answer for the lolz.

Thanks,on reading the comments on Google play for macro droid it sounds a bit tetchy for me.
My problem is that the volume on my phone keeps turning the volume down whilst it is in its case whilst in my pocket and I cannot find a way of locking the settings/keys.(I am 71)

Note 2 is an old phone so you may need an app. Quick Google I found galaxy-note2.wonderhowto.com/how…62/. The other way is to get a bluetooth wrist band that vibrates when you get a call. They start from £20

Just looked up. Do Not Disturb settings allows stared callers to break through silent mode has only been out a few years so you will need android lollypop or marshmallow OS on phone. That will rule out older or budget phones

err my missus does this... it's a person problem.. I think you will find they will just ignore you anyway.. might be worth looking if tasker can do an auto answer but you might not like what you accidentally hear...

u could try the app find my phone or similar then if he doesn't pick up send a message which will turn a alarm on his phone

Tell them that you will take the phone off them if they cannot be contacted.

Thanks all, some great replies. Hopefully I wont have to play "hunt your child" anymore. I just wonder how our parents coped without mobile phones. Oh yeah, we did as we were told!

it would be nice if you could just send a shock through the phone lol

If your son has fixed times when he is picked up you could use the do not disturb function that is now available on newer phones or latest software. Set the wake up times at the time you are scheduled to pick him up. So in normal school times it is in silent mode.

That is only when DND mode is switched on. You can mute your device without having DND switched on which means all the priority settings become useless. Third party app is the only way at present.
Snapshot below where my phone is on silent but DND mode is not activated, on latest Android 7.1.1.
