Skimming over tile adhesive??

Can anyone please help me !

So.....we are attempting to tile our toilet . The old tiles are off but the old adhesive is still on.
My other half has arranged for a plasterer to come and skim the walls and ceiling but I am worried you can't skim over the old adhesive ??
The surface hasn't been "bonded " or had any other treatment.
So basically is it ok to skim over the tile adhesive? Will it all hold together ready to be re tiled ??We have no time now to remove the adhesive so I'm quite worried

Thank you in advance!

It is ok to be retiled AFAIK after being skimmed. If you try to remove the old adhesive, you can damage your plasterboard!

Thanks for your reply.
That's good to hear . Would be so annoying to pay to get it plastered for it to all crumble away from the wall.

Do you have time to allow the skim to dry, it's going to be a thick coat over adhesive, say 2 weeks?
