    Sky Charging For Unanswered Calls...

Hi, Has anyone been charged for unanswered calls to mobiles with Sky Talk? I keep getting charged for calls of 00:00:00 duration and for calls of a couple of seconds. I know the call wasn't answered & voicemail didn't come on. Sometimes my boyfriend will give his Mum's mobile a couple of rings so that she calls back.

Each call will be just under 30p but it adds up. When I asked sky about it they said that the calls must be connecting, but I know they're not. There is no way for me to prove it.

Just wondered if this is happening to anyone else?

I think the terms and conditions have now changed so that a connection fee is taken even if the call doesn't go through.

I wondered about this. I also have this on my bill, very sneaky and unjustified

They've been doing it nearly a year though. Don't know how much they've charged me all together, but it must be quite a lot. When I've spoken to them they haven't helped at all. They probably know I can't prove it to anyone.

    30p for a call that's not answered? that's insane
if you have one of these a day, you can say bye bye to over £100
i would leave immediately if this happened to me
my deal with virgin media has about 1000 free minutes including mobiles, worth considering as an alternative

Yes, Very sneaky indeed. Not sure why it just happens with mobiles though. Maybe it's when it connects to the phone mast thing?

i have been charged for unanswered calls all the time so was surprised when someone stated that mobile operators only charge for answered calls? oO

Can't get Virgin on my road, I'd probably be with them now if I could. They do seem to be a better company than Sky.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you've known about it for a year, why didn't you stop?

Why can't your boyfriend use his mobile?

In a family group with vodafone, dont have a contract. His Mum is on a different network. Rather than paying nearly 13p per minute to call her via the landline, she calls back, it doesn't cost her anything.

There are a multitude of options available to avoid any charges, send a text, call with a couple of rings with the mobile etc

I've had the same problem over the past few years, they refunded the first lot and apparantly there was no conntection fee, but when i tried to get another refund for being charged again they told me there now was a connection fee as soon as it rings once evem if no one answers.

Sneeky . Charging to ring when no answer at all. Thats sky for you. Look for alternatives.

I know it's been happening, I have paid for the fact that it has, I just wanted to know if it happens to other people too...

I'm not complaining about it to you personally am I? So shouldn't have to explain to you why my landline is used to call mobiles...

Did they say if this was just when you call mobiles? How can they charge a connection fee when the call isn't connected. Someone posted a link to offcom on here & it says about answered/unanswered calls etc.. When a call should be charged for.

Even if this is in their terms and contrary to Ofcom regs, I think it would come under unfair terms, thus not enforcible.
    Report to Ofcom.

Yes they told me it was for any calls. Thats exactly what i was telling them but apparntly now they do charge a connection fee as soon as it rings. This was the last email they sent.
    "
I spoke to my Compliance collegue, Ofcom type complaints where there is a deadlock in dealings are not handled by Ofcom directly, they’re handled by an Independent adjudicator who do so on behalf of Ofcom. We (i.e. Sky) have drafted a letter to you today which outlines our position on this which you should forward on to the Ombudsman if you wish to pursue this matter further. The Ombudsman I believe then reviews the evidence of both sides and then adjudicates on the matter. You should receive the letter in the next few days."

You'd think that our landline charge would cover the the cost (If any) of just ringing someone without connecting.

The connection fee with Sky is 15.9p now & 9.5p per minute (to landline) 12.7p per minute (to mobile) The charges have gone up a hell of a lot in the past few years.

I'll remember not to waste my time helping you again.

If both of you have broadband and smart phones, use an app like Viber or Skype to avoid such sneaky land line phone charges.
