Sky Digibox Help Required Please.

My Pace Sky Digibox has suddenly stopped working . Cannot get red light to go off . Have tried all the obvious things like changing remote batteries, taking viewing card out & cleaning, switching on & off at socket & checking connections in the back. I no longer have a contract with sky so only get 'free to air' channels + Setanta . Does anyone know if i get a different make of box ( there is an Amstrad one on Ebay close to where i live ) will it still work ok with Setanta using my viewing card ? If not any ideas where to pick up a pace digibox at best price right now ? Thanks for any thoughts.

I always understood it to be the viewing card that decided what channels you can watch so you should be ok using it in a different box. Im not 100% certain though so don't buy anything based on my post:-D

OK Thanks for that . Will look into it.

sky pair the digibox to the card but i don't know about setanta.
as for the fault it sounds like either a hard drive fault (easily fixed) or a PSU fault. more difficult but not really hard.

OK Wolf, Thanks for that. Will take the box into work on monday & get an electrician to look at it. Any idea if i get a freeview box instead (if can't get digibox fixed) will i still be able to get my Setanta subscription ?

my sky+ box recently kept losing signal and then switching itself into standby. it turned out the hard disk was full so i deleted some stuff off of it and it works fine now! not sure if yours a sky+ box or not but worth a try if it is.

also, if you buy a freeview box i would have thought setanta would be able to transfer subscription over, if not then they're rubbish lol

Hi, No it's not sky+ but as wolf previously mentioned could be the hard drive. Will give setanta a bell failing getting it fixed at work regarding transferring to freeview. Many thanks for your answer.

i'd guess that worse case scenario would be phone call to setanta asking to pair card with new receiver.

as for repairing the box, the hdd can simply be swapped out with a compatible model. the psu can either be repaired or replaced. good value units from people like satcure.

sorry just saw you mention its not sky+ missed that bit. if its a normal sky digibox then it won't have a hard drive. it gonna be the PSU. get a prepair kit off satcure and it should sort it out.
